stumble upon app is out!

Awesome! Here's a QR code for whomever:

It works great, but I wish it didn't look like an iPhone app, and a poorly designed one at that.

You guys made it sound cool, so I just tried it for the first time. Wasn't impressed AT ALL. Its just like a marketing tool, you select all these categories at the beginning (rather basic and lame ones at that; sports, music, art, animals, health, etc) then you push a "stumble upon" button and it takes you to a page you MIGHT like. ONE BY ONE.... I thought there'd be a google chrome type page with thumbnails of cool stuff I might like with a nice interface, instead just crappy random webpages, lots of network errors, no image save and no bookmarks. wtf.

Perhaps I just didn't give it enough of a chance, I didn't check out the whole friends thing or whatever. I just don't like waiting for a page to load up, then not liking it, and waiting for another random one. Zzzzz.

This has been around for a few years now and is a great way to learn new things, and find new sites. It's NOT a search engine.

You tell it what you like, and then rate each thing you stumble on to, and the more you rate, the better it is at understanding what you like, based on similar users ratings. It works with the same type of equation as netflix and pandora to suggest new things.

I, personally, have wasted countless hours of my life hitting the "stumble" button, and everyone I've showed it to, in turn, does the same. I could see how not everyone would like it.

Actually, that's not true. I don't get how someone thinks this isn't cool! :D

Thanks, I thought everyone was way too excited over this and I hadnt heard of it before. The descriptions made it sound like it would be a waste of time (especially this one: it's like the web meets tivo meets crack.) I appreciate you telling it like it is.

But that's exactly what its all about! Random sites that you wouldn't have even thought about checking out on your own. Yeah seems pointless and boring but oh boy the interesting stuff I've learned by Stumbling.

I came across a story about a Japanese soldier who on a tiny island in the philipines was fighting WWII until 1979. He was in a such a remote jungle he didn't even know the war ended 24 years earlier!

Crazy stuff, but some of the random things you come across when using stumble upon. Of course it all depends on your preferences.

I think its worth it when you're bored at work.
