So I must flash the newly created combined "theme" as an update.zip
basically and flash via Clockwork? I took a look inside the Google Quick Search apk, renamed to zip and looked and found all of the images
for the Tangerine widget.

For some reason on my Droid 1 the lower case g and the word google is
low res and doesn't look as sharp as the black and bold theme.

No worries.
I think I'll back stuff up, and go for it.

One really important thing to remember is that you NEVER unzip the apk -- you open the archive in 7zip and drag the folders with the images to your desktop, change the images you want to change, then drag the folder back to the 7zip archive -- never unzipping.

In Winrar you can double click, and open an archive (.rar.zip)
and it doesn't unpack it, it allows you to view files within the program.

keyboard fc after i type 3 lettets everytime..
this happened after I installing 1.41 patch..
How can i fix this?

same problems here after "patching" with 1.4.1... I tried settings->keyboard->uncheck "android keyboard" and re-check, several times as previously suggested.. rebooted... nothing.. So as of now, I went to my nandroid backup of 1.4 WITHOUT the 1.4.1 "fix" and everything is running great.

Stewart1, I modified your WM'd 1.4a to add battery icons with a percentage number on them. I am linking a rapidshare zip that has both the modified them and just my modified images in them. Feel free to use them if you want, or just ignore my post if you want. The choice is yours.

Bemenaker, those look really great! I'm gonna use the battery images, so thank you!!

Bemenaker's battery percentages do look really nice:

If you are seeing the M logo twice, isn't that during the bootloader loadup of your phone before you are even getting to the ROM? This sounds to me like a H/W problem with your phone. Could someone who has actually written a ROM correct me if I am wrong here.

Certainly possible. I'm not nearly as techy as most of the others on here. I made note of it because it happened every single time. It would occasionally happen when I flashed a diff kernel on other ROMs, but it happened any time I rebooted for any reason on this one. I'm currently reviewing a diff ROM and it's not happening.

However, I had wondered if I could screw with tech support over the hardware keyboard issue, and have them give me a diff Droid. :p

ok i downloaded one. but how do you delete the old keyboard?

If you have Root Explorer, you can just navigate to /system/app, tap the "Mount R/W" button at the top, long-press on LatinIME and delete it (then remember to tap the "Mount R/O" button at the top).

If you don't have Root Explorer, you can try typing:

su
godmode

into terminal, then navigating to /system/app with Astro or equivalent and deleting LatinIME.

I need some help. I tried installing this ROM and I can not get my phone to boot. I rooted using Easy Root. Then I installed Rom Manager and flashed ClockworkMod Recovery. Then I chose install Rom from SD card and then I wiped all the data as suggested. I went into install .zip from sdcard and i pointed it to LFYv1.41.zip on the SDcard. The install completes in about 5 seconds. Now, I am caught in a cycle of reboots. I see the Motorola logo for about 1 minute and then it restarts itself and keeps looping. How badly did I screw up?

You installed just the patch. Download the 1.4 LFY ROM in the first post. AFTER you install 1.4, you can apply the patch (which is what you just tried to install - the 1.4.1 file is NOT a full ROM).
