Easy way to create ringtones for your Droid X

Hey everyone!

I know there are a few threads going around about ringdroid and other great apps you can download to make ringtones for your X. Personally I like using more on my computer...I just feel I can edit them better.

The site I use is...

You can download them to your computer, then e-mail and download to your phone or send them direct to your phone

Just wanted to share in case it helps anyone....personally I find it really easy to ensure I have the best quality

I don't know why this is never mentioned, but you can just create a folder called "ringtones" on your SD card and pop some mp3s in there. Boom, they automagically show up in the ringtone listing!

I'm currently using "Such Great Heights" by the Postal Service via this method.

Yes but it doesn't give you an option to edit it without going through an app or another program Still, good thing for people to know though!

Very cool trick. Does this work for Notifications as well, I wonder. Might have to try this. I used Ringdroid to create a couple of ringtones that show up in the list fine, but I'm having trouble finding my "newly created" notification sounds for texts and such.

Yep, that baby has been key with my LG enV: had to go through slicing it down, and then using the filters on it to reduce the bass and increase the volume, etc. Thank the lord those days are almost over!

BTW can anyone suggest a good way that I can set a voice recording as a ringtone. I want to sing a little Whitney Houston into my phone b/c I have a voice like an angel: some people have told me that while I'm singing I take the form of a unicorn!

Even easier...just push and hold the song title (in Music Player) and select to use it as a ringtone. It will then be in the list of ringtones.

I use Free Audio Editor to make ringtones. I bump up the volume an additional 30% and then just save them to the phones SD card in a ringtone folder.

The only problem is that you can't use DRM based tracks (for obvious reasons) but it sucks for those of us who do use these types of programs.

So I have Ringdroid and Ringtone but I don't see an option to assign a different ringtone to a specific contact. When I go to save one, the choices are Music, Alarm, Notification, Ringtone. I swear there used to be an option to Assign to Contact (that never worked, but at least it was there).

After you choose ringtone another menu comes up with the options: Assign to contact, make default, or exit.

Scroll all the way down until it shows you "additional info" with an arrow pointing sideways, touch the arrow so it points down and scroll further down to the end and touch the arrow to Call Handling-Ringtone No Ringtone specified and it will give you the list of ringtones to choose from. I used the method where I created a folder named "ringtones" on the SD card and chose one from there. And yes it also works the same way with notifications, just name a folder for them and throw some in there and you will get them listed in the choices for notification tones in the set up.

Real easy after I tried a few other methods like Astro to copy them to the ringtone folder in the system/media/ringtone directory. That didn't work at all, but it worked on some of my other smartphones so I thought it might work here.

thanks for the step by step directions! that push and hold in music player didn't seem to work for me, and with your method i found another little tid bit i hadn't seen. "send straight to voicemail" NICE!!

Sorry for the dumb question, but how do you seperate ringtones between an incoming text message vs. an email or other notification?

They are all stored as notifications in the same folder. Go into each app and select which notification you want for that particular app in settings.
