Root Lost root after 2.2? You can, I believe, revert to 2.1.

I saw this on another form and I haven't tried it myself, so don't kill me if it's not right.

Go into recovery (like you did to apply the update.zip). Wipe your cache. Perform a factory reset/date wipe or whatever it's called from within recovery. You _should_ (again I take no responsibility here) boot into 2.1 where you can root and then apply 2.2 update again.

Good luck, and let us know if it does/doesn't work.

EDIT: To revert to 2.1:

1: Flash sbf. After this, you will bootloop.
2: Get into recovery like you did when you updated to 2.2.
3: Wipe cache.
4. Factory reset.

When you reboot you should be at stock 2.1. This would be useful if you needed to return the phone for warranty services, or if you need to reinstall 2.2 for some reason (like to gain root).

Unfortunately, I have not found a thread where it makes it sound simple enough for me. If anyone has info on how to do it without moving stuff from the bins, I would greatly appreciate hearing about it.

Get into recovery like you did when you applied the 2.2 update. Then, scroll to them wipe cache option and execute it. Next, scroll to the factory reset option and execute it. When you reboot you should be good.

In my haste I did the update without moving or copying the update.zip file (I left the file in the root of the SD card). I just updated which worked but obviously lost root. SO, if I do the wipe cache option will this work for me too reverting back to 2.1?

I edited the OP with instructions. You'll need to flash the sbf file. You'll then bootloop. Pop the battery and reinsert. Then get into recovery. Wipe cache and then factory reset. Then you'll be in 2.1 and can root properly and reinstall the 2.2 zip (or you can download the Bootstrap and Rom Manager apps and install through Rom Manager).
