i made a post a few days ago whining about how the most id get on 4G downloads was 2.5 mbps no matter where i was in town, tested over weeks all over the place. I put in a call to sprint last night asking why data was being throttled in houston when I know that folks in dallas were getting upwards of 6. They said it was a coverage issue blah blah blah. Well, I ran a test today and voila...4.1 mpbs down. Maybe its entirely a coincidence with the timing but I don't care, that is almost the speed of my home wifi. Hooray! :D

Are you getting consistent speeds when you run the speed tests?

Please do not use the app to test your speed, the app has some real flaws. Also, you can not run a test 4 times and claim anything. To do the proper test you need to run the test 10 times from 1 spot, 30 spots per day, for 3 months. 4 tests are like taking a piece of paper, holding it outside for 3 seconds, and then declaring where ever rains or not. My personal guess is that they just turned on a closer tower, remember, no matter where you are, it is still being built out.

4mb from your home wifi? I get 10-12mb down consistantly on 802.11g Linksys router, charter cable, not rooted.

Anyone else care to comment on avg home wifi speed? Thanks

That's about what I get with comcast. It depends on your internet connection and what type of wireless router you have. It also depends on how good the signal is on your phone. I get 10-12mb when the signal is at full strength. If I go to the other end of my house I get 1 bar and get about 4-6mb.

Yup had about the same speed about a week ago, when I was in my doctor's clinic near Bellaire and Fondren. :)

EDIT: I checked my results (history) from speed test, and it's:

8056 kbps d/l and 1850 kbps u/l (08/15/10 - 1:17 PM)

I did a second test and the results were
7089 kbps d/l and 1800 kbps u/l (08/15/10 - 1:18 PM)

oh look, RoI emerges to try and dump on peoples threads, par for the course.

I ran speed tests all day yesterday showing clearly that something big has changed, and it wasnt my phone. Since getting the phone there was a cap at around 2.5. Ive been getting sometimes double that now. My best so far is 5.4 while driving 70mph on 610 south. So no, its not just a 'closer tower'.

Just one of the many reason I do not came here. But sure, just for you. They turn on one tower at a time, that is how it works.

OR they could turn on a bank of towers, lets say 50 at a time. The towers are closer to where you are and there for you are getting faster speeds. But for real do not use the app.And yes it could be your phone. If the app updated it self to use a server closer to your location the speed would be faster. But you see how all those works down to how close you are?

IF you do not want to believe me fine, go to speakeasy.net. Select the closest server, run a speed test. Then select a server further away.

it would either use dallas or wichita and it was always the same. unless they turned on more towers all throughout the city...my commute stretches from westchase to clear lake...

anyways, pulled down 7.4 on speakeasy.net
