Very annoying apn settings after wipe

I don't know if it's just me, or other people have the same problem, but I seem to spend half my life messing about with the setting on this phone! It's probably my own fault for rooting my N1, but it is starting to get a bit too much!

The latest thing is trying to get an internet connection after trying out a new ROM (this one is the RoDrIgUeZsTyLe CM6/RC3).

I forgot to take note of my APN settings before doing the wipe, and now am having such a hard time trying to connect to my Orange UK 3G, even though I have tried every suggestion I can find on google!

Does it take time to hook up to the internet after changing the APN settings, or should it be instant?

Any help would be great, even though I have alredy read up a lot on the subject.

From the orange website:
Setting up the Device

On the device, tap the Menu icon.
Select Settings > Wireless & networks (or Wireless Controls) > Mobile networks > Access Point Names.
Press the Menu key and select New APN.
Select Name, enter Orange WEB and tap OK.
Select APN, enter orangeinternet and tap OK.
Enter the user name and password listed below. If no value is listed, leave the field blank.
Username:
Password:
Select APN type, enter default and tap OK.
Press the Menu key and select Save.
If necessary, tap Access Point Names then tap the radio button next to Orange WEB to set the profile as default.
Press the Home key.
Tap the Menu icon.
Tap Browser (or All programs > Internet)
Press the Menu key and select More > Settings > Set home page.
Enter http://orangeworld.co.uk and tap OK.

Might need a restart to get it working after applying the settings. If this doesn't work try some other settings, there seemed to be some more on the orange website.
Always turn to your carrier for APN settings :)

Wow now, let's not do anything drastic here! lol
I'm not up to date on CM and certainly not on RC3 or that theme but verify if your radio stayed the same as before or if it got flashed with the ROM. If it did then there's your problem and you should look into reflashing your radio..
If all else fails try flashing back to stock (hopefully you made a nandroid so it'll be easy to restore).
Should that also fail then be sure to contact orange, sometimes the fault just lies with the carrier. In fact, you could call their tech support first and have them verify your data connection is open and set to send and receive.

I think it might be something related to forcing apps to SD card when using titanium backup... Tried all the things you suggest, but nothing has helped.. Again, thanks for the imput.

Gosh go grab an iphone then buddy......your loss, wow.

I use the nightly builds and quite honestly after the last update 20th everything on my phone is not only perfect, its amazing!

Could you beleive it, after all that I have said I think the problem MIGHT be with Orange Uk having issues this week with their internet service; ironic thing is that I have had a stable phone for a few months now, and as soon as I had a little play around with a new ROM a couple of days ago, there is a nation wide problem!!

I would have never known, but my pal (who has an Orange HTC Desire) came round to my house tonight to watch a blu-ray, and happened to mention the Orange UK problem!!
