Tapatalk Pro problem

Not open for further replies.
Anyone use tapatalk? I can't seem to get these forums to load up on tapatalk pro......the xda ones work fine......and when I try to log in to the page which is not showing up via tapatalk is gives me a load of crap about restricted access.

Tapatalk was dis-abled a few weeks ago (mid-July) because of some security breach. I don't think the issue was ever resolved.

I'm sure some will find that useful, but to me it's another app wasting space and serving a small limited purpose. At least with tap a talk I can use it with all my other forums I frequent. I really wish you guys would just turn it back on.

^^ this has been brought up repeatedly, lmao, by many people... unfortunately it doesnt seem like its going to happen. :(

Frankly it's ashame. I mean really if you don't to support then remove yourself from Tapatalk. Every couple days I give it a try and FAIL. I guess this forums has so many users they don't care. Oh well, frankly I'm only here today to read up on the Droid X after that I'm out.

Just to clarify guys.. the security issue was resolved within 24 hours after first reported and email has sent to all forum owners to upgrade. We have also contacted the owner of this site to see what we can help to restore. There are one security incident since our commencement of service, i don't want to compare apple with orange, the vB systems has more security incidents and I suppose you want to shut-down the vB as well?

In any case we fully respect decision of any forum owner to activate or to deactivate Tapatalk.

We have tried our best to support everyone.

It's great to hear from a representative of the utility in question.. good on ya, Tapatalk. :)

One thing I'm hoping that everybody involved keeps in mind is that each forum has admins and owners who run things as they see fit, gathering input from many sources, including users, advertisers, other staffers, utility reps such as Tapatalk, and on and on.

Decisions made just can't satisfy every single entity involved; that's impossible. Tapatalk users may or may not get what they want here (or at other forums), but that is one consideration in a whole constellation of considerations.

Most of that has been explained by an admin here in posts in other areas.. I'm just saying that there is a lot more to any of these issues than any one element such as those you kindly point out for us, Tapatalk.

Hi,

Thanks and well said - Yes that's why we respect 100% to any forum owner and their decision, however according to this post:

http://androidforums.com/site-updat...talk-support-has-been-pulled.html#post1137299

It appears the owner here turned it off solely because of the security purpose? Maybe it should be re-phased to something more generic if the reason is not 100% on the security issue? Personally I feel this is an excuse to deactivate it while damaging Android developers credits.

We enjoyed programming for Android and we have spent tremendous effort in building it and I suppose we deserve a more fair treatment among the Android community.

You were doing great until you used the words "..an excuse to..," as if there is an ulterior motive behind the admin's explanation.

I'm glad you prefaced that phrase with "personally I feel," though. ;)

I take people at their word. If things turn out to be different than their word later on, then I make an adjustment in how I perceive their remarks.

I have seen no reason to make such an adjustment with the site administrators here.

Thanks for coming in and stating your case, Tapatalk. As I said before, it's good to see that. But I'm wondering how useful this discussion, this thread, is going to be if we attempt to go into what we think are "excuses" for what is being, or has been, stated by the principals in this issue.

We apparently are brushing against a bent semantic communication issue more than a disagreement. ;)

You're responding to my remark, "..Tapatalk users not getting what they want is one consideration in a whole constellation of considerations."

"Considerations" are not necessarily the motivating reason for a change. The motivating reason for all of the considerations was security, as you remind us with the link to an admin's report to us.

However, other considerations, ignited by the discovery of the security vulnerability, are myriad and some are brought up by users here in two threads on the subject; some being the inconvenience to Tapatalk users, the population of those users, the possibility of deploying an alternative app, the long term impact of disabling or re-deploying Tapatalk, etc.

Completely agree with this guy...forum owners approach seems self-serving vs. community-serving. If not that, it makes little sense IMO.

oh tapatalk, i still miss using you here, fortunately for me every other forum i visit still has you enabled :D

I support your right to drive traffic away from your site based on an out of date excuse. It's not worth the horrible browsing experience on a phone. It's ok though, since XDA is still using it and a FREE version just for XDA (ie. they are not trying to take cash out of the pockets out of their users *cough*).

The tactically smart approach would to have just been honest and say to your users that you're developing an app for the site that will help support it in perpetuity, but instead you blame Tapatalk. Making the switch AFTER you develop the app would have been the wise/ethical/smart thing to do, not before. You've screwed all mobile users from viewing your site in a decent manor.

Feel free to run this site into the ground.... Buh Bye.

Ah, this again.

Feel see to see this reply, which has plenty other replies linked.

I've made it perfectly clear that while this STARTED with the security issue, it was left un-installed for other reasons.

And no, its not because we want the (maybe) 50 of our 270k members that actually used it to click on the ads - or any other half thought out conspiracy theory. I've explained it. Feel free to dig in to all the previous discussions on it.

Hint: If you want it reinstalled - your best course of action is to petition the forum owner. His way goes. He has said no. You will need to change that "no" to a "yes". I changed it the first time - and thanks to this fiasco - I'm not going to do it again.

If you would like to buh-bye over it - that's fine. We'll do just fine in your absence, trust me. :)

Adding to what Phases just said and clearing up a few things here are just a few facts about this situation:

1 - Tapatalk was not welcomed by the owner of the site when it was implemented. He had to be talked into it by Phases.

2- Tapatalk had a security issue that had one Admin of this site specifically targeted.

3- The security issue caused removal of Tapatalk access to the site.

4- The owner, not wanting it in the first place, decided that restoring was not ok and it is gone for good.

5- There has been an AF app in development for some time now. (No, we don't know when it will be ready).

6- Believing that this forum, the owner or any of the staff have some nefarious purpose behind the removal of Tapatalk is rather silly and may suggest the need and/or use of a tinfoil hat.

7 - These are not excuses, these are facts and all of them have been stated before.

We are sorry that anyone feels the need to leave the site based on the availability or unavailability of a single application. However, Tapatalk will more than likely not be returning to this forum.
