R2D2 without upgrade?

My boyfriend bought the Droid Eris in April of this year and wants to buy the new Motorola Droid 2 R2D2 edition.

Obviously, he wouldn't be upgrading so he would have to pay full price right?


How much would that be? Like $600?

The droid 2 is 559 so i would assume the r2d2 would be the same price maybe a little more

Check out eBay and you will find out. It will of course get a bit cheaper with time as it is a completely new phone at the moment.

We recently ordered my wife a D2 and yesterday she saw the R2D2 edition and she is really bummed out she would have waited. We are coming over from Blackberry and we were in such a hurry to get rid of that trash we just pulled the trigger on it before we even held one!

I wonder if you could go to the store and do an exchange on the day the r2d2 is released? It'd be within your 30 day return period..I imagine you'd just have to pay any difference in the price (if any). Might depend on the demand of the new phone, but worth a try...

Yeah you have 30 days to return your phone for any reason. I've returned a Blackberry Tour 28 days later, even dropped it and dinged it, and a TouchPro2. Just told them I didn't like either phone and they took it back, no question.

Only thing is if you return your phone and get a new one that same day you have to pay a 15% restocking fee. If you don't get a new phone within 3days you don't have to pay a restocking fee. So Return the D2 4 days before the R2D2 comes out and she can get get the R2D2.



As for Miranda, sorry unless its a family plan and someone else has an eligible upgrade, you're going to have to pay full price out of contract. Unless you can sweet talk a manager into an early upgrade, it's happened but I've seen more unicorns.

For the OP, if you have had the phone at least six months Verizon will let you upgrade at the new 2 year pricing. That is what my wife and I did. We have only had our BB's since Jan of this year but we got it at the $199 pricing.

I was just thinking about this...do you think the people who have gotten Droid 2's as replacements for Droid 1's are going to be returning them for R2D2s? There are probably a lot more D2 owners out there that have gotten one in the past month than there normally would be. I wonder if the exchange policy would still be in effect if they weren't actually "purchased", but provided as a warranty replacement. I'm guessing not.

My situation is a little different though, I wonder if I might be able to switch to a R2 when it comes out...I'm in the process of getting a D2 at a discounted price as a result of bad replacement D1s. They said they were offering it "similar to a warranty replacement", but I am paying a price for the phone, and (I assume) I'll be keeping my malfunctioning Droid1 and not sending it back like I would be if it were a normal warranty swap. I'm thinking that since what VZ is essentially doing is offering me a credit for my trouble, and I'm technically purchasing the D2, I should be able to exchange it for an r2, no?

Return your phone now and you will be eligible for an upgrade again. Then get the phone you want online when it's available.
That's the point of the 30 return policy. To make sure you get a phone you're happy with.

Also, just throwing this out there.

A co worker of mine wanted to upgrade really bad, but didn't have the $600+ dollars (including tax).

So he activated another line on his plan, got his phone, and disabled that extra line.
He didn't cancel it, he just called and said it's a spare line that he wont be using at the moment.
They disabled all the features and I believe is just paying an extra $10 a month.
I'm not sure i would want to do that... but he said he doesn't mind it.

He even sold his old phone on ebay and got over $100 for it.
So his new upgrade was practically free, minus the $10 a month.
