Root Change Lockscreen help

Im on a eris running xtrROM 4.x and want to change the lockscreen to the new droid x slide version. I searched and seen something about gridlock but am confused.

There are a TON of threads regarding different lock screens. Just search for them. In fact, when you start a new thread and type in the title a number of already started threads about your issue will pop up. Try those

I've been looking for a new lock screen to flash for my Eris and haven't been able to find anything but abd ones, which I know NOTHING about. If you know anything about those scripts you should be golden. If not, learn to live with the stock HTC one like I have

I'm not sure if this is common knowledge or not, but if you want to switch to the stock android lockscreen (transparent with slide to unlock/silent mode), you can use root explorer to navigate to the system/apps directory, mark it R/W, and rename HtcLockScreen.apk to HtcLockScreen.bak, then reboot. I'm not sure if this works on all ROMS, but it does for me on XTR and a few others as well (can't remember which, though).

If you want the same lockscreen but do not want it transparent and add a image, then you can flash the Vanilla lockscreen in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694906

Thanks but that is not a flashable Lockscreen. I've already looked into this as it's the exact lockscreen I want to switch to. Maybe it'll work for the OP but I don't know how to run commands and whatever else you said to do, lol. I'm new to droids and have only been rooted for less than a week, still using stock 2.1.

Sure did, loaded it on, flashed it, renamed the original, rebooted, Wala.

I moved it to my SD card, do I d/l MM and apply the theme or go into recovery and flash from SD?

Couldn't get this to work on Stock 2.1. All the reason to try some new ROMs

Hook your phone up to your computer, open up ADB.exe in a command prompt, do ADB DEVICES, and it should show your phone. Now switch to usb mode, throw the file on root of the sd card, switch back to charge only. Now power off the phone, boot into recovery, flash the zip. When its done, in the command prompt do this.

adb remount
adb shell
cd /system/app
mv HtcLockScreen.apk HtcLockScreen.bak

Reboot phone, and thats it.
exit

What is the ADB.exe and where can i download it?

never mind, i found it under the \tools folder. thanks for the info, new lock screen works!

If anyone want to check this out, its a rotary style and I have it working on xtrROM 4.5. It was made for evil eris but it works on xtrROM and may work on others. just be sure to use either on of the ones for evil eris not cyanogen. and no, the cyanogen one does not work with Kaos froyo, Tazz cyanogen, or CELB Froyo unless you want an endless boot loop.

As always, follow the instructions and after you run the metamorph, just wait for the phone to reboot. It will look like its locked up for a sec or two then reboot. Be prepared for a lengthy boot up. 10 min at least.
