Help Bad ESN???

i recently saw somewhere that you can clear a bad ESN on a blackberry... can you clear a bad ESN on the X and if so, afterwards, can it be activated and used properly on the verizon network?

I haven't heard of any methods, at least not easy nor of course legal, to clear bad ESNs...the only, viable at least, way I am aware of clearing them is by taking them into a local VZW store and taking care of any overdue payments or other related account issues that caused the device to receive the bad ESN in the first place.

Let's just hoe you didn't purchase the device off of someone...you'd be more than likely stuck with a $500 dummy phone.

not that i am aware of. that esn is locked to that phone, and it cannot be changed. as i'm sure you know, they do this to prevent insurance fraud.

it will, however, make an excellent paperweight (or it could be flashed to another carrier that would support the radio bandwidth)

or, whoever put it on the lost/stolen list would need to call CS to have it removed.

no i dont have a bad esn lmao. i saw it on ebay and heard that blackberrys can be cleared and reset and was just wondering if the x could too. most x's on ebay are going for around 500$+ and this one was 305. so i was just wondering =]] thanks for your help! =]]

hmm. that would be interesting to find out.
although, usually the people who buy those phones are people who intend to use them on some of the smaller, more regional carriers (ie. Cricket here in Denver)
but it would be nice to find out if it can be done.

Again, in theory it can be done, but the cost is unknown until you have it unlocked by Verizon. As suggested, it might be reported lost/stolen by the original owner, or that they may have fallen back on payments, and thus the phone was locked.

A bad esn is the pnone is stolen or the original owner didn't pay the bill plus early termination fee will be due also before they will activate the device. Esn's can not be changed it is the devices electronic serial number.

If you want to spend some time trying this path, ask for the ESN from the seller and call Verizon to ask what the problem is. They will tell you. You can way out if it is worth it, considering the cost.

Like it was mentioned, the only way to get a phone "cleared and reset is to pay off a balance that is due. If it's stolen, nothing will do it.

That is not a phone function, but a carrier function. If someone is telling you that a brand of phone has the ability to be "cleared and reset", they are most likely giving you a line of BS. They would have to change the esn on the phone...which reminds me of the "cloning" days, when thieves would steal someone's analog cellular signal, program that number and esn into a phone and start racking up calls. Have not heard of that ability since digital came out. If it can happen, it's a huge crime, so don't go there.

When products are typically selling for $500 and one is selling for $300, there is usually a very very good reason. Unfortunately, some sap will buy it and then claim he got ripped off because he can't use it.

There are progs out there to change the ESN on cdma phones. The only thing is finding one not in use or locked. But as stated many times before a locked ESN is locked by the carrier and cannot be cleared until the account is cleared.
