Help Email app?

Quick question... is the Email app on the Droid 2 an Android app, or a Motorola app? Reason I ask is under the Gmail app (which I presumed was for Gmail only, given its name) you can choose to add other accounts, but when you do it redirects you to add accounts to the Email app. Rather bothersome.

But my bigger issue is this... how the hell do you switch which email account you're looking at in the Email app? Only way I've been able to see any account other than the default is to go into Settings and change which account is the default.

When viewing your email under your gmail account you'll see your account name in the upper right. Tap it and it should show you your other accounts. Mine does.

As far as I know it's all standard Froyo stuff.

A lot of the apps on the D2 are motorola apps, including the email app. However, the email app I like a lot better than the default android email app. Mainly because it allows you to specify the "reply to address" when you setup an account, that can be different than the email address of the account that you're signing in to. The UI is slightly preferrable to me as well over the android email app, in my opinion.

The "social networking" app, which was meant to replace the likes of the facebook app, sucks. I used it for facebook for about 2 minutes, then wiped the account, and downloaded the facebook app from the market. The latest version of facebook is a lot nicer than the previous version.

Yes... but how do you change which email account you're viewing in the Email app without going into settings and changing what the default email account is?

If you click the email app, and you have multiple email accounts configured, it should show the 'accounts' page, which lets you choose the account you want to drill into.

If you don't see the accounts page, just click the menu button, and select the Accounts option to go to that view.

There is a combined inbox which lets you see all emails from all accounts.

There is a separate app for viewing GMail email accounts though.

When I open my Email app, it goes straight to my Exchange mailbox. The Menu button brings up the following options:

Select All
Folders
Compose
Refresh
Email Settings

That's it. Clicking the name of the account I'm in (at the top, between the Refresh button and the New Email button) simply drops down a list of folders for that email account.

Gmail and Livemail. I actually added Gmail to the Motorola Email app so that I wouldn't have to use 2 different Email apps... the regular one, and the Gmail one. So, in short, I have the following accounts added to the Email app:

Gmail
Livemail
Exchange

The only thing I can tell you is that if you tap the email button, and it goes right into your exchange account, try hitting the back button. That takes me back to the account list page.

I have to wait for my wife to get back with the phone so I can screw with this, and see if I can reproduce what you see.

Pressing back simply goes back to my home screen. It's not that it goes straight to my Exchange account, it simply goes straight to whichever account I have set as the default. And of course I can get to each respective account my clicking on a notification for that account in the notification bar.

Ok I reproduced what you are seeing. Motoblur does it again. That is totally bogus.

The only way I found to switch accounts is to go into the email app press menu,then select options. In the default email setting change the account to your other account. Then back all the way out to homscreen and go back into email to see your other account.

That's horrible. At least when you get a notificationand click it it goes to the right account.

Ok I found it. I knew I saw this somewhere.

Your entry point needs to be the Messaging app not the email app . The messaging app has the account list where you can drill into your different accounts.

Go to the apps list and select messaging.

Could it be any LESS intuitive to have the app labeled as "Email" NOT be the place to go to check your accounts? Motorola, I swear... you make incredible hardware, but please, please, PLEASE stick to Vanilla Android!

Especially since the stock android app called messaging is purely a text messaging app.
