App to change Profiles depending on time of day

I am looking for an app, that say when I go to bed at 2300, it auto silences. It goes back to loud at 0600. When I get to work at 0800, it silences again. Yet, when my GF calls, I want it to always override and ring no matter what time it is.

Are there any programs like this that will work for what I want?

Tasker, it does exactly what you want and so much more. It can be a little difficult to set up, but it works awesome and is sooo worth the money. I think there is a free trial version on the market, if not you can go to the website and download a trial version for free. When you upgrade to the paid version from the market you will have to reset up all of your profiles. I say go ahead and buy it, you won't regret it!

I have tasker, but I cannot figure out how to set it up to allow one person to ring all the time, even if the phone is silenced.

Under alets (far right tab), add new -> phone -> phone ringing -> add GF number (or anyone else). Then hit the plus in the bottom left to add an action -> audio -> ringer volume -> set the volume you want. Then that will be the volume for that caller regardless of what your normal ringer volume is set at.

Sorry to be a pain, on the new, it brings up context window and I have choices App, Time, Day, Location, State, and Event. Which do I choose?

event, sorry I had the context bar at the top, I forgot that wasn't always there. Event is the far right there, I thought it was alert because of the symbol.

I was just thinking, just to be sure you should set up more. When you add the action to increase volume, add another action -> tasker -> wait (I recommend about 30 seconds), then add another action, same as you set the volume to increase, now set the volume to be silent again.

Then when you are done, on the main screen touch the left side of the profile you just made where it says incoming call or incoming sms, then under context select add. Here add a time context for the same time as you have your phone set to silent.

The reason I say to do this is because if you get a call that turns your volume up, I think it stays up for all calls after that unless you take these extra steps. And if you don't add the time context it will turn your volume off during times when you want it on. Like I said tasker is a little complicated but if you take the time to set everything up completely like this, it won't let you down.

I don't think that will work because by the time Tasker is aware of the incoming SMS, the silenced notification may have already been performed. You may have to use Music Play or, after having changed the silent mode, use Notification Sound in Tasker (but then you'll have two notifications to clear).

You're right. A better alternative to the Phone Ringing context is the Income Call context. Since Phone Ringing is an event, it will not restore settings afterwards. But Incoming Call is a state, and will restore settings after the call is completed.

Unfortunately there isn't (and can't be) any state context for an received SMS, however you can simulate one:

Context: Received SMS <number>
Enter Task: Variable Set %RECEIVEDSMS = 1

Context: Variable Value %RECEIVEDSMS = 1
Enter Task:
Silent Mode Off
Notification Sound <title> <message>
Variable Clear %RECEIVEDSMS

Since Variable Value is a state, Silent Mode will be restored to its original setting immediately after the notification sound.


You could also add a context:

Variable Value %SILENT Not Matches off

to the above profiles so that they only activate when silent mode is either on or vibrate.

Totally agree, use this instead of my previous post. This is much more precise and efficient. Thanks for posting this method, I haven't used any of the variable values myself yet, but I am going to have to start messing with those.
