Verizon Wireless is supposed to be releasing FRG22d today (Aug. 24th 2010) I want to know if there is any way to save all of my settings that I use in Handcent SMS because I have done a factory reset about 3 or 4 times now and handcent is always my biggest problem when reinstalling my apps, just because of all of the custom settings. Is there a way to save these settings to my SD card or something to be automatically applied after the factory reset and cache wipe?

Titanium Backup will save the program and program settings.

Thank you, on IRC chat I was helped by fareal and ariel_ ... found that Titanium backup DOES save Handcent SMS custom settings as well as texts. and appbrain sync's all downloaded apps to your gmail account for an easy batch install... (at least I think its batch) ....

I know the paid version of Titanium (worth every penny) has all the batch features). One word of advice, from my experience, I do NOT use Titanium to restore system settings especially when changing ROMs. I always do a full wipe, do the system setting manually (allows you to discover new settings in different ROMs), and restore apps and app settings using Titanium batch. I also do a full data/factory reset and cache wipe with any new installation even from the same developer (worth the extra time and saves guesswork when there is a problem).

Echoing Shrink57 -- definitely don't restore system settings when changing ROMs or even switching to a different version of a Verizon OTA. I had a terrible experience when I restored system settings when setting up a new phone -- I restored 2.2 settings onto a 2.1 phone that had not yet gotten the OTA update. It put the phone into a permanent error loop; fortunately, I knew enough to force it into recovery mode, and wiped and started over and eventually figured out my gaffe. That's an hour I'll never get back...

An hour you will never get back but an experience that will save you countless hours in the future I've had many of those.

Actually, if you manually pick and choose, there are some settings that you can restore and some settings that you probably should never restore.

Some that can be restored are the ones in green when you look at the batch restore for all items. The ones in red should not be restored.

Calendar Storage (green) should not be restored as your calendar is synchronized to your Google account, and restoring it may cause issues.

Contacts is similar - don't restore.

Wallpaper settings have always restored when I allow Google to sync settings from my account on a new ROM, but YMMV - at least see what happens first before restoring it.
