Help Can I change a text alert to a normal ring tone? If so... How do I do it?

Hi,

Need some help here (not hugely technically minded though!).

Can you change the text alert on the x10 to a ring tone instead?!
If you can, can you give me a step by step guide on how to do it please?!

Download SMS PopUp, Ringdroid, Tone Picker and Zedge using android market

Ringdroid- you can created ring/text tone out of your mp3 in your X10

Zedge- you can download tons of cool ringtones and wallpapers for free

SMS PopUp- lot's of extra features for the stock SMS app


Tone Picker- let's you choose any sound as your notification

handcent sms - i have it set as my default sms client instead of the stock. it gives a bubbly conversation style interface like the iphone and quick pop-up reply option which is also very nice and most importantly for you, it will give you option to choose your mp3s as your ring tone, alarm alert and text alert

Ok, I made an account with this forum to specifically to start spreading the news...

The SE Xperia X10 can have custom notifications at least for the default messages application, here's how:
[sorry if it sounds like if this I'm challenging your intelligence with this, I'm just really surprised no one bothered with this]

1)Connect your phone to your computer.
2)Mount your SD Card.
3)If you have PC Companion, goto file manager... if not goto My Computer and open your SD card.
4)Create the following folders "SD Root folder":\media\audio\notifications
4a)ADD YOUR RING TONE TO 'NOTIFICATIONS'
5)Unmount SD Card
6)Open Messenger
7)Open Settings
8)Open 'Select ring tone' (You better have notifications already selected...if not...this little list is too much for you to handle.)
9)Select Ring tone, it is labeled however the file was named.

Voila! Your done, maybe a littler more work than downloading an ad-app... but whatever....


Limitations ...
I haven't tried anything outside of .mp3 files so I don't know if you'll be able to use various file types.

Currently I'm using just a three second sound-clip (Eurotrip's token "MailMother****er" sound byte) So I don't know how long the notification can be.

Thanks for the info my friend i was looking long time for this, i was spent hours and hours on internet looking at all the comets people right for wma files or mp3.keep your mp3 and just follow the instractions above trust me it works . As from today i have my own music for message ringtone on my x10 Thanks again

this may be off topic, is there a way to modify a flle (XML file??) to apply ringtone to different events? right now everything falls in the general notification category. it would be nice to separate notifications for voice mail, mail, IM, SMS...etc

Could someone please explain this to me

Made a new folder called SD Root folder, then inside that, another folder called mediaaudionotifications - as you can't have the / within a folder name. This obviously didn't work so what am I doing wrong?

I think he means "SD Root Folder" as the letter of the drive, as in C:, L: etc. The 1st folder you make is called media. In that folder make another called audio and finally make another folder in audio named notifications. then place all your files in the last folder. hope that helps

Hi.

This should help...

I have all mine on the SD card but you need to set up your folders properly to find them when you want to change a tone. This is how mine are set up....

On the SD create a folder called media, in that create one called audio (create one also called picture and another in that called wallpaper) within that create another 4 called...

alarms
music
notifications
ringtones

...and put your tones in the appropriate folders, then when you use settings to change your tones they will then show up in the appropriate selection window.

The steps described here are useful only (apparently) for setting a custom ringtone for notifications, but that would apply for ALL events.

Yes, enter the setting of each individual app and you should be able to change the tone, you can with the stock messaging and app and gmail I know that much.

Hi:

I have just bought the Sony Ericsson w150 and I feel dissappointed because I can't change the SMS notification tones. I can change the tone for an incoming call, and I can even set a specific mp3 for every contact.

But the cell comes with 5 notifications (for SMS events), and there is no way to set another mp3 or wav for an incoming SMS. Or there is any walkaround?

I tried creating the media\audio\notifications but to no avail. I'd appreciate any help.
