Seriously, how do I get 2.1 back?

Or are they going to fix this disaster of an update? I've been trying to put up with it for the last week (got a silence/vibrate widget, SMS app, etc.) but all the new little annoyances are really adding up and making 2.2 unbearable.

This isn't just a rant thread, I really want to know how to get back to 2.1. I wasn't open to rooting before since I have an extended warranty and it's extra work, but I'll do it now if that's the only way (though I'd still prefer not to).

In case anyone reading is experiencing similar problems, here are a few of the most annoying issues I've been having since updating to 2.2:

  1. Icons & widgets on home screen usually take 3-5 seconds to appear when using the Home button to leave an app.
  2. After unlocking the phone, swiping to move to another home screen takes 2-3 tries.
  3. Browsers (stock and Dolphin) refresh EVERY time you switch to another app, which defeats the purpose of multi-tasking.
  4. Browsers are also randomly closing without any message at all -- no Force Close popup or anything, they just disappear and reopen on the homepage.
  5. If I get a call while playing music over Bluetooth in my car, the phone keeps playing music but at the phone call volume (I think most or all BT head units differentiate the two). This is extremely irritating because it immediately starts BLASTING the music over the speakers until I answer the call.
  6. WiFi is completely useless -- either doesn't work at all or downloads slower than 3G.

I am having every one of these problems, minus 5 & 6. 5 I have not used yet, and 6 I have not had an issue with WiFi. But 1-4 yes.

Also, I would like to add that streaming video through JAVA has been terrrible. Stuff that I was streaming while rooted with 2.2 that was running fine, is now choppy and crap. I too am seriously thinking about going back to 2.1 and rooting.

Also, I have been wondering if Verizon kinda purposely did this to force people to upgrade to their newer phones (DROID2, X)

.. Makes you wonder

Maybe I should have read this before speaking to Verizon... ever since I downloaded 2.2, my Droid has been acting crazy. Opening apps by itself, screen freezes, enough to give me a headache! After four factory resets, Verizon is now sending me a refurb. I'm a little concerned about the refurb since I paid a good chunk of change, and I never had a refurbed smart phone. Should I go ahead with getting the refurb or try getting 2.1 back? Any advice would be appreciated!

I tell people to root because 1, I feel bad that they seem to have gotten screwed with this update, and 2 because it really is the cat's meow! I don't think I've ever read where someone was sorry they did it, but I have read more than a few times that they were sorry they hadn't done it sooner.

lol @ the cat's meow !!! lol :D

But I totally agree with the Kitty's statement

What are the huge bennefits of rooting the phone, if you are not going to put in a kernal that OCs the processor?

You should use CM6 RC3 From ROM Manager with Slayher's new Kernals, specifically the 1.1ghz one. I have had that screen redraw on every single ROM until this one using that kernel, and it really pissed me off. CM6 RC3 offers a lot of customization and there is a great theme out there for it called REVOution. IF CM6 RC3 doesn't work you have to keep trying different combinations of ROM's and kernels 'till you get the perfect pair. I know, we shouldn't have to be going through all of this just to have a phone work the way it is supposed to.

Add signal and charging issues to the list for me
