Video Out via 3.5mm Headphones Jack?

Nowhere in his post did he say it would be better. I'm not sure what device supports video out via 3.5mm unless it's pushed through an RCA male.
Like EarlyMon and I said, Samsung's new phones DO.

And yes, I didn't say it would be BETTER, although arguably it WOULD because the video out for Samsung Galaxy has the ENTIRE SCREEN outputted. Meaning, all apps, animations, and whatever you're doing on the phone. The EVO's HDMI out is nice and can play 720p and all that, but it only outputs video and slideshow, so for my purposes it is almost useless. :(

If I could get the Samsung APK and try it, and if it would work, I'd be REALLY happy!! :D

This should make it clear (this is a pic of the cable my camcorder uses):

Well I would want it as my former phone htc touch pro 2 had A/V out via a cable that I plugged into my in dash stereo/gps system in my car. I was able to use my phone with my sling app and watch live tv on my in dash 7" screen in my car. I miss it since getting my Evo but if this can be done then I would love to be able to plug it into my video in on my car stereo.

It wont work. The internal board would have to route video to the headphone port, which I doubt HTC would have done without touting that as a feature.

When I read about this feature of the new Samsung's a few weeks back It made me very curious. I have not been able to find a definitive answer as of yet to the question if the Evo can potentially output via 3.5mm.

I could be totally wrong and off base here, but I think like Sitlet was hinting at, there is more than likely a hardware limitation on the Evo as opposed to the Samsung. The Samsung headphone jacks I suspect are some type of specialized 3.5mm jack or are typical but have an extra conductor soldered to the circuit board for handling the video signal.

I wish that it could be achieved through a simple software program or .apk, but I fear that it is not that simple at all. Like I mentioned, I believe that there might be a hardware roadblock, and even if there isn't I suspect it would take some really complicated programming to be able to tell the phone to redirect the video output through all the right channels and come out correct through the 3.5mm. Like some well choreographed symphony.

But who knows, maybe there are greater minds than mine at work on this already on XDA. I would love to be proven wrong.

The reasoning is because the HDMI out only does pics and vids, not the entire screen/apps/etc...

As for the comments on HW limitations, I will remind you phones have been doing things like this for years. My dinosaur Windows Mobile phones even do this!!

Also, the iPhone and EVO have other apps which utilize the headphones jack for data. It is just DATA, it doesn't have to be "video" or some special HW logic, just "data" (I guess in this case analog but could possibly be digital). It gets modulated the same way. For example, Square uses the headphones jack to plug in a magstripe reader so you can swipe credit cards. There's other apps like this too.

This is the only thing I miss about my touch pro... Now i leave my touch pro in my vehicle & tether it to my Evo via the wireless tether app, so I'm still able to watch slingbox on my headunit
