Root Different keyboards on Froyo?

I've come to the conclusion that I really don't like the default keyboard included with the kaosfroyo rom. As cool as it looks, its just bad at correcting mistakes. The htc keyboard was great once you calibrated it, and seemed to remember certain words that you use often to suggest them over other choices.

Is it possible to install the HTC keyboard on this rom? Are they any other keyboards worth trying?

FWIW, I uninstalled the version of HTC_IME_mod that comes with KFV30 and installed HTC_IME_mod_lowres_22 (Clicker.apk followed by htc_ime_mod_lowres_22.apk)

The reason that I needed to replace the HTC_IME_mod keyboard that came pre-installed with KFV30 was that the voice-to-text input key caused an immediate keyboard FC

I have fat fingers, and so I prefer the Phone Keypad for portrait-mode orientation with thumb-entry (I use T9). Texting is much faster in landscape with two fingers, of course, but there are times that is not convenient.

I'm pretty sure I also used the same keyboard with Tazz V8.

One of the reasons I dislike Sense based ROMs is that I don't like the HTC keyboard; for whatever reason, I find it inaccurate with the way that I type, even after calibrating. I also dislike Swype; I can never tell where the next key is if it is to the right and down from my finger, so I am very, very slow with it.

If you are like me, you may want to try the multi-touch keyboard for Eris Froyo builds that kaos posted yesterday (see this post for a recovery flashable version). I also really like the Swiftkey keyboard (in the market), which has amazing word prediction technology. After you use it for a bit, it will reduce the amount of keypresses that you make dramatically. I am currently running nonsensikal 5.6 and would like to have the phone keypad with t9 also. However I cannot find the clicker.apk file. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks

One thing that can speed you up with Swype is "swiping with your eyes" before swiping with your finger. It sounds like it would be slow but you get pretty quick in swiping words if you do it. It's very hard to swipe as you go, as you have already found. Most peoples' fingers are just too wide to read letters that happen to be adjacent.
