Help Newbie Help Please !!!

Hi all, love the forum, but need some help from you guys if poss please.
Question is regarding my emails. I have set up my Gmail account to my X10 and it works fine, emails come and go instantly. However, what I cannot get it to do is play a notification tone when a new email arrives . I have been into the settings of the email, and the main settings and ticked all the relevant boxes, and selected a tone, but still nothing when an email arrives ? My normal ringtone and SMS tones are perfect. Spoke to SE and they said to download latest software update from their website, which I did, but nothing has changed. If anybody has any ideas I would be really grateful, thanks guys

Are you locking the phone with apps still running? I know there are some apps which will disable the notification sound if left running

How do I tell if I have apps running when the phone is locked ?

Once again I find myself not giving a direct answer to your question but a work around, I recently started using the app K9 mail instead of the stock and its got lots of customisable settings for the email, change led colour, set ringtone, vibrate and number of vibrates, notify in status bar etc. Plus you can choose which folders to show, I don't use gmail and it used to annoy me that it was there on the list so now I only display my pop3 mail account. Plus it lets you batch delete your mails rather than having to do them one at a time like the stock app.

Thanks for this Rosered, I have downloaded the K9 mail, and it seems to now notify me !
The one thing I cant see, is how I can get it to repeat the notification tone if the mail is not opened. Quite often if I am away from my phone, I may not hear a mail arrive, so need it to keep making a noise so I know its there waiting - thanks again

I can't find that either! The only thing will be that the led will be flashing at you to let you know that something has happened and you need to have unlock to see what it is. I have my led set up for different colours for SMS/Mail/Tweet altho if you have multiple it gives me a dark blue-ish colour, guess its all the above mixed. I used K9 for the email led and Handcent SMS led for the text side of it (if you haven't found it yet give it a go - another freebie so you can dump it if you hate it!) I also have an app called Blink that lets you change the led for battery/memory/missed call/incoming call/sms/mms .
