While fixing a problem with my EVO...a SPRINT tech "lost" my SD card.

They only had the phone for 5 minutes and they "lost" it. WTF!

All my pics, vids, info...GONE! They claim they don't remember seeing it. I said, "kind of hard to not see it, when you lost it".

Now they are offering me a new sd card because they cannot find my old one.

Should I be concerned?? What, if any, data could have been stored on the SD card that would compromise my security?

Geesh!! I'm so freakin' pissed.

Is that a rhetorical question? They had your entire phone, what does the SD card matter in the grand scheme of things...LOL I'm talking about your security question.

Slick...NOT a rhetorical question. Thank You for your lack of concern. The SD Card itself is worthless. But the pics, vids, info....Priceless.

Sitlet...they have been "looking" for a couple days now. They say that they cleaned the work spaces and could not find it. Even "swept the floors" looking for it.

RIDICULOUS>Classic SPRINT customer service.

Always take your SD card out when you get your phone repaired because just like you forget its in there they forget its there as well. They so small they can fall in a empty garbage can and you wont find them in the plastic bag. Its bad they lost it though. Sucks when the phone dont automatically sync all your data to the laptop.

You asked the stupid question above, not me. Your SD card can't compromise your security when the tech had your entire phone in his or her position. Think about questions before you ask them.

Its like you gave a lock to a locksmith. Then you ask people in this forum if the locksmith can decipher your lock. He is a locksmith, now does that answer your question about security?

I long ago upgraded mine and my wife's to 16 GB. Kept the originals for this very purpose. Full access to phone while I deal. Even have a few if my vids on it if needed for demonstration purpose.

SLICK. Before you go off insulting people's intelligence perhaps you should learn to proofread. "Position" I assume you meant possession.

Also, are you aware that Sprint Techs don't have their PC's at work with them. If they did, would it make you feel comfortable to see them syncing your phone with there PC? Probably not. My concern is that a tech pocketed the card and now is exploring my personal data at home at their leisure. Or even potentially uploading pics/vids onto the web.

Now "Slick", the "stupid" thing I am guilty of is not removing my SD card before handing my phone to a tech. And I am posting this story not only for advice but also as a reminder to my fellow EvoEr's to remove their SD before allowing a SPRINT employee near there phone.

And on a side note, I will NEVER understand why there are so may insulting people on this forum. What's the point of commenting if you are just going to be a jerk and insult a stranger on the other side of the internet.

considering they only had your phone for 5 minutes, the SD card must be somewhere in the store and only in a few locations. I would have demanded that they find it, and I wouldn't have left the store until they did. They should understand that your privacy is important to you and locate your card.

Anything else would have been unacceptable.

novox77, I did demand that they find it. I waited and waited while they "looked". I was visibly upset and annoyed while also keeping my cool. The only other thing I could have done was walk out onto the sidewalk and start screaming...."Police..Police".

They did not care AT ALL!

And Thank You all you decent people for your commiserating with me. Nice to hear from some caring people on this forum.

Have you ever seen your SD card? Do you realize how small it is? If so, do you realize how easy it is to lose if it is just simply dropped? Knowing all this, why didn't you take the opportunity to secure that data before handing the phone over to Sprint? Backup the stuff to your PC, upload it to the cloud via facebook/youtube. I believe your anger is a little displaced here.

What would you have done if you just handed over the phone for just a second and your SD card coincidentally got corrupted? Would you still blame the other party for corrupting your SD card? Would you be this mad about it?

I'm not saying that you don't have a right to be mad, but the level of anger you're displaying is disproportional to the item lost.... It's a <$20 SD card. Show $20 worth of anger... It's not the end of the world. I know the data on it was priceless, but it was your responsibility to safeguard that data. Not the tech's... His responsibility is to get it working.

Why did they remove it in the first place?

I was going to ask this as well, and to slick, don't try to be "slick" here, the guy has a legit concern about his SD card, you don't need to be a prick about it.

But yea I agree that's gotta suck, and TBO, if I was you, and knew I had personal files on my SD card, I would have walked my myself in the back or wherever they were, and looked for it myself if they couldn't find it. Always watch what they are doing with the phone as well, like one person mentioned, hard resetting the phone.

If anything to learn from this experience, there's probably a couple apps in the market that can encrypt SD card contents. So if the SD card was plugged into another device, it would be unreadable. I tried to look for some sites, but only found one that MIGHT help. Downside is once encrypted you can't use that file.

So many HATERS on this forum...it's like swimming through muck! Ick.

As I have stated before, I know it's only a $20 card. It's the principle. You hand something to a tech (for 5 minutes) it should come back in better, if not the same, form. And I wouldn't had been nearly as upset if they would have wiped/corrupted the card. Then at least know where my data is (nowhere!). Now I'm stuck wondering where it is and who has it.

First, I didn't know that they were going to be fixing it on the spot. So I wasn't prepared like I usually would have been.

Second, I had no idea that they would be removing the memory card. Evidently, it is required to take the phone apart.

Thirdly, How can anyone justify this by stating "it's so small". Of course, it's small!! Thanks for the 101. Geesh. These "tech's" are trained to deal with small pieces, you'd think they would run a clean and tight ship with that type of stuff coming through their office everyday.

Also, very surprised to hear everyone assume it was a male. It wasn't.

All of your personal pics, music, data, is priceless, but the SD card itself is far from worthless.
Just try and get one for free.

General thread comments... people see things from different perspectives (especially not knowing the "concerns" of others). It's always wise to keep that in mind! That being said, I'm sure slick meant no harm in his responses regardless of how they were worded.

I'd suggest that we all take the upper road this time and keep it mature and "HATER" free. Please remember, HATER works BOTH directions. :)

OP - That sucks. Honestly though, the card is gone. They looked for it and couldn't find it (regardless of if that is true or not). They offered you a replacement SD card. My advice would be to voice your displeasure, take the replacement SD card and move along. Perhaps you can squeeze a phone charger or something out of them too.

I, personally, doubt they did it on purpose and I doubt anyone is sitting at home looking through your pictures/vids.

Lesson learned either way. From henceforth we should ALL remember to remove our SD cards before handing the phone to anyone! :D
