Aldiko eReader - Paid vs Free?

So I decided to install the Aldiko eReader app last night and absolutely love it. Importing my .epub files was a breeze, and I actually found a reason to read again!

The only question I have, is what are the differences between the paid and free versions of the app? Is the paid app solely offered to help "donate" to the developers? Am I missing any features with the free version?

Just figured I'd ask before I decided to buy.

I believe thats it, and you dont get any ads.

I love it too. I got the Kindle app when it first came out, but quickly realized most of the books I wanted were 10 bucks or more. I couldnt see paying that much when you can get the same physical book new for less than that.

So I got aldiko and love it. Does everything the kindle app did, and its free.

The only ads on the free version are when you go to get more books, the little store/repository it has.

However, the paid version is 1MB larger than the free version (2.38MB vs. 1.24MB, though, I read that last night, and I've since got a full night's sleep -- and haven't had my coffee yet).

But I have a $20 gift card for the Android Market that I can't use for anything but the Android Market (I've tried) and Aldiko is one of four apps I'd be willing to pay for... and the only one that accepts Google Checkout... grr... (I would have also been willing to pay for Launcher Pro, OurCooking, and Alchemy.)

It's 1.24MB vs. 2.48MB. The difference is exactly double.

I just bought the Premium (paid) version earlier today. I can tell you exactly what getting it entails... but I have yet to find a single difference, save the lack of ads.

It will remember your place in your books, so that is not a concern. However, it will not carry over your settings. So you have to set it up all over again. Also, if you have any books on the home screen, and you uninstall the free version, the books will not open with the paid version. You have to delete that shortcut and make a new shortcut to the book. This will not affect your place in it either.

The paid version still has the up vs. down bug, where if you tell it to swipe down to go to the next page and swipe up to go to the previous page, it will work, but the next time you start it, it will reverse the settings on you, so you just have to put them back. Once you've set the setting the second time, it'll stick. (Most of you probably never encountered that bug, but it's there.)

Okay, I "Like"d Aldiko on Facebook, and I meant to send them a message, but they were responding to questions on their Wall, so I just asked there.

Aldiko is "based on a Swedish word that means book". I wanted to know, and it may be of interest to y'all.

Also, the paid version is larger because it has copy protection. That's the -- those are the answers they gave me via Facebook.

Hope this helps somebody.
