Can you confirm (since compcache gets broken with any other kernel)
installed after the one that comes with 1.5 LFY...

Can we write a script (posted at CM forum) which tells
the system to enable compcache at boot with any of the kernels
either in his nightly OR the ones on the OP of this thread?

Let's be clear -- compcache was only broken on the ROM with slayher's v1.6 kernels downloaded before around 11:00 a.m. today. Both the slayher kernels made for LFY v1.5 and the slayher v1.6 kernels downloaded after 11:00 a.m. today will enable compcache on LFY v1.5. If you broke compcache by using a slayher version 1.6 kernel DL'd before the 11:00 a.m. fix, then it's still pretty easy to fix it. You just need to reflash the ROM, theme and a a slayher/LFY kernel, or one of the fixed v1.6 kernels -- although Liquid strongly recommends the slayher/LFY kernels. You don't need to wipe anything, so it's pretty much a snap. I know, because I did it.

No other kernels will break compcache (in other words, if you loaded a Chevy, P3Droid or even a slayer v1.5, you could load the slayher LFY v1.5 afterward and compcache would work just fine) -- but then, compcache won't WORK on those other kernels either.

And, let's clarify again that the slayher kernels made for LFY v1.5 are NOT the same as the slayher v1.5 found on slayher's kernel site. Although the version numbers get confusing, the former refers to the LFY version number, and the latter refers to the slayher version number (which predated his collaboration with Liquid).

Does that make sense?

based upon this sequence of posts, along with Liquid's own admission that there was an error:

I have in my possession 2 different LFY 1.5 files - the old one with an MD5 of 7D9B9AE7FA64500FEDEBDE2A854D70BF and the new one with the same MD5 as slider is posting - 2558EA8999955E75AECDFEE38ED3A111

Would it be safe to say that all users should double verify that the file they have on their SDCard is in fact producing 2558EA8999955E75AECDFEE38ED3A111 for an MD5 string, n if it is instead producing 7D9B9AE7FA64500FEDEBDE2A854D70BF that they should then re-download the file right now and reinstall (without having to wipe) over their currently installed file?

what problems would this cause and how would i check which file i have?

So my 1.5 file has the wrong md5 sum. Can I flash the correct one without wiping and be safe?

Yes, I just reflashed the ROM, theme, kernel and pulldown editor update.zip file, all in a row in the same reboot cycle, without wiping and without issue. In fact, the performance boost is noticeable now that I have compcache back. You should be just fine reflashing the ROM with the correct md5 sum and kernel of your choice, without wiping.

My Visual Voicemail is gone since installing LFY1.5. Can't see it in the Market either, and I can't seem to be able to restore it from any backup. What gives? I pay for that service and still need it...

I just did a search in the Market for Visual Voice and 2 choices (Visual Voice Mail (Verizon Wireless) and Visual Voicemail (PhoneFusion)) popped right up. It's not the ROM.

For those wondering - both files appear to be the same size when you look at just the umber of MB involved (both come out as showing 64.1 MB) but the newer file is actually 15 bytes larger - the old file in bytes is 67,254,846 and the newer file is 67,254,861

So, if your file does not have the following MD5 hash: 2558EA8999955E75AECDFEE38ED3A111 - then you are running the older LFY 12.5 release that will break compcache as soon as you swap out a kernel (or, at the very least, as soon as you swap out a dif slayher kernel).

As GLD has said - get the new file (it will be named the same thing as before) from the first post, verify the MD5 hash is 2558EA8999955E75AECDFEE38ED3A111 and then simply install it without having to format anything.

If you installed a theme over the old one, reinstall it over this one - IIRC, you won't even need to reboot between the two flashes, although it might not be a bad idea to do so, just to check and make sure your first flash took well on your phone.

Visual voicemail is listed in my titanium log but it's lined through and greyed out.

Properties says:

Backup made on phone/ROM:
droid (0403698a0b012010)
Android 2.2
Generic_sholes-user debug 2.2 MASTER eng.
Liquid.20100812.154307 test-keys

Even if it's not the rom, any idea how I can get it back?

I can install it on my phone, then post the apk for you.

UPDATE: Here you go. Put it on your SD card and use a file explorer to install it (make sure you have "Unknown Sources" checked in Settings>Applications).

That's odd mine was different I didn't delete the original file. Either check the md5sum or amount of bites in astro

yeah thats what im trying to do, how do i check the md5sum? i did check with astro and it seems that i have the new file. 67,254,861. however i am still curious about the md5.

i dont know what is in that few bites of data, but my phone is DEFINATELY running cooler now!

Md5sum is used to verify files I think there is a link to it in the how to root thread.

Link is in the how to root 2.1 without losing apps and data

If I install the 1000 slayher and I decide to go back to the standard Liquid kernel, how do I do this? Just reflash the rom?

Make a nandroid backup BEFORE flashing kernels. If you want to revert, you can do an advanced restore and ONLY restore the boot partition. This will reinstall the stock kernel without messing up any files or settings

Initial Setup:
LFY remains one of the fastest booting ROMs, taking only about a minute to bootup. Was happy to see my fav animation back, but that's just a matter of preference. Market synced up pretty fast at just over 15 mins and restoring 97 apps out of around 110. This would be the second most a Froyo ROM has ever restored.

Appearance:
It's pretty much a stock ROM until you flash one of the included themes. You've seen the screenshots, not much else to report there. I do like that Beautiful Widgets has available skins and LauncherPro has a couple dock images. Would like to see a Weather Widget Donate skin available, as most of us have one or the other.

Performance and Goodies:
There's not a lot in terms of extras, which probably doesn't matter too much with most of you. So when comparing to ROMs that do, it's got to compensate with tremendous speed, which this ROM has done in all builds. This ROM, however does have some hiccups.

I scored pretty high on Quadrant, netting a high of 1626 at 1.1GHz, and consistently in the high 1500s. Generally, the ROM seems pretty fluid and scrolls beautifully, but then there's times where it seems to lag. Apps don't always open and close beautifully, and screen transitions can seem stiff occasionally. Sure, I've got some GPU intensive widgets and such, but even with very little installed the same problem persists. Reading through the comments, I'm apparently not alone.

It feels like there's something causing it more than just being a "slow" ROM. Sometimes when you're scrolling through your apps, or a webpage, it's just butter. But other times, it seems like it's just sticking. Like when you first wake it up, it kinda takes a few seconds to get rolling. And when surfing the net, it seems to take a few seconds longer than it should. And it really doesn't like performing two tasks at once. Getting a text while surfing the net cause horrible lag and the same thing happened while multitasking in call.

That's another thing, calls take a second before they let you respond. You won't be able to wake your Droid or answer for more than a few seconds. This is receiving or making calls. As a matter of fact, while trying to call in a radio station for one of their daily contests, the process took so long that I knew by the time I actually completed the call that it was already too late.

App and System Function:
Most things seem to be in order, haven't noticed any apps that didn't work, but there were a couple issues that did occur. I did have a FC while viewing the Market, and Swype seems to lag a lot, and consistently with this ROM. Even the stock keyboard seemed a lil sluggish.

Battery and the GPU seemed to stay pretty cool for the most part. Even while really putting this ROM through the ringer, the GPU never went past 104F and the battery never above 98F.

Overall battery life, though, is rather unimpressive. With heavy use, I drained the battery completely in 4 hours after flashing (I don't start testing until completely charged). After normal use, I was down to about 40% after 8 hours, but after less than an hour later of heavier use it dropped to 15%.

Overview:
I'm kinda disappointed in this version. While it's not a bad ROM, I was hoping for increased performance that just wasn't there. It sounded like they really had this optimized, and the benches I've gotten confirm that. But real world application tells a diff tale. It might be one of the most fluid ROMs I've ever tried when it's not lagging. Problem is, it lags quite often.

For me, it seems that every build that ends in an odd number (1.1, 1.3, 1.5) seem to not do well, while the even numbered ones perform near outstanding. So while this ROM left me disheartened, I very much look forward to seeing if this trend continues with the next build. And understanding that this was the first ROM that Liquid collaborated with slayher, perhaps they'll have everything worked out for the next go round.
