I just got my Eris this past week and am loving the phone. I traded someone on Craigslist for it. My only complaint is that at my house I get poor reception. My family has Verizon and they don't complain about poor signal with their phones. I could never get a signal especially in my room (the basement) on my Samsung Rogue and it's the same thing with my Eris. Half the time I get 0 bars in my room. I sometimes only get 1 or 2 bars when I am at work. I did notice that when I was driving the other day it kept going from 3 bars down to 1 and back up to 2.

My Eris is not rooted or anything. I just got the phone, I'm afraid to root it cuz I might mess something up. So if someone can help me out that would be great. I tried dialing 228 and it didn't work.

Thanks for the help.

every phone (vzw) i've had gets horrible service at my house
i've really considered switching to T-Mobile or Sprint(never at&t)
i just need something to really get me to jump ship
also, i love my droid X, but the Evo4G is tempting....

its funny whenever i bring it up to Verizon tech cause they say LTE will fix many issues like mine in places all over the country
I'm pretty sure LTE is gonna be for data while CDMA will still be used for voice
please correct me if I'm wrong

If you have a lot of spare cash, you could buy the Verizon Wireless Network Extender. That said, this handles voice and messaging only - no data - and there is a rumor that there will be a 3G data extender available later this fall.

The network extender is essentially a cell tower that uses your broadband internet connection as a backhaul to Verizon's voice network.

That was Verizon's suggestions for my signal issues. The lack of signal effects most of my town. I am not in the middle of nowhere. I think this is Verizon's problem, not mine. I would change carriers, but none of the others are any better. There just are no towers here.

I'm pretty sure LTE is going to completely eradicate the need for relying on 2G and replace it (in due process of course). LTE phones will support the older standards while we are still in the transition phase, but I'm pretty sure it will handle both voice and data. It is 4G after all. Cell phone technology has vastly improved. There really is no longer a need to rely on a nearly 15 year old standard.
