so my sd card is somehow damage. me being stupid and not backing up my sd card before, has now put me in a predicament.

i can't pull all the info off my sd card. will re-formatting my sd card take away any of my root access? will i still be able to enter clockwork recovery?

thanks in advance.

Formatting the card has no impact on the phone (root, apks installed in internal memory, your settings) or recovery (its also in internal memory). Of course, if you had some apks istalled on SD (aps2sd, apps2sd or ext2sd) it can remove these, but all parts needed to run the phone are still safe. If you have ext2 partition on the SD, try to format just the fat32 partition.

Wait! If you've ever made nandroid backups, these are stored on your SD card. You mentioned clockworkmod as your recovery image. In that case, there's a folder called clockworkmod/backup on your SDcard. Make sure you preserve those.

In fact, I recommending copying everything off your SD card onto a PC, just in case.

Other than that, you're all set to wipe it.

I don't think that he can access the SD-card anymore...

i am able to access my sd card right after i reboot my phone. however, once it's connected and then disconnected from my computer, my EVO says, "damaged sd card" and once i swipe that it tells me i need to re-format. i did manage to get my pictures and stuff pulled off, but I am looking at all these other folders wondering which i NEED to pull off.
also, some of the folders like clockworkrecovery or nandroid are having trouble actually being taken off the Sd card when i am able to connect it. I don't know what to do. i have been having problems ever since i tried getting the PRI update (which by the way i was never able to obtain).

Yea, I was never able to get the PRI update either... I am pretty sure you are safe to reformat the card anyway.

so if i reformat, and im not able to pull clockworkrecovery, and nandroid back up off my sd card, how do i put those 2 things back on my sd card after the format?

clockworkmod recovery is in your phone's memory. It stays with the phone. You're basically losing any backups you made with clockwork's nandroid backup. But after you wipe your SD card, and assuming it is fully functional, you can just make a new nandroid backup (either directly from recovery, or from ROM Manager), and it will save it to your SD card. Then you can copy the backup images to your hard drive, as an additional layer of backup.

Clockwork recovery is not installed on the SD-card. It is installed in your phone's internal memory. Your nand backups are stored on your SD-card (this is the clockword folder that you see on the card). If you are unable to get that folder off of the SD-card then they will be lost forever. I don't think its a big deal as long as your phone is functioning properly since you can always make another backup once you format the card.

Damn, beat me by a minute lol

this may sound like a really really dumb question, but can an sd card repair itself?

every other time i have connected and disconnected my phone from the computer as soon as it disconnects, my phone says, "damaged sd card"...blah blah blah..........well this time, it didn't say that?

secondly what's the correct way to eject your phone from your computer? i have never had a problem until yesterday and i just want to make sure it's nothing im doing wrong. thanks again guys.

I don't think that it can repair itself unless it was never damaged in the first place... The correct way to eject it from the computer would be to use the eject hardware icon that pops up in the tool bar on the bottom right hand side of the screen.
