USB Car charger problem

So I baught a cheap USB car charger on ebay a while back and when I pluged it into my Moto Droid nothing happened. It did not say "charging" and it actually never di gain any battery life from it.
Maybe it was defective?
So I decided to go and get a Jabra USB car charger and still the same problem.
Shoul I be seeing "charging" on the phone just like you see when you are hooked up to a pc?

Have you made sure that your cigarette lighter port is actually working? I had a problem with a charger for my stand alone GPS unit and it turned out that a wire had come lose on the port.

Also, check your fuses and make sure that you have not blown a fuse.

It really sounds to me like your not getting any power to the port and that is why your phone is not charging.

My gps works fine in it, plus I tried all three ports that I have.
I'm wondering if there is something set to off lie usb debugging or whatever.

Interesting. Is the cable being plugged into the phone completely? I know that mine likes to "hook" into the phone on the right side, but I have to slightly twist it to get it into the left side. The only other thing I can think of doing is using a different car to see if it works with that car. If it doesn't, then it's probably a problem with your chargers (though it seems unlikely that it would be happening with two completely different chargers).

besides the fuse in the car, and a bad outlet, did you check and see if you have a fuse IN the charger. generally accessed via unscrewing the tip of the charger and a small fuse is inside.

if the computer powers it via a micro USB cable, then no reason a car charger should not UNLESS there is something faulty in the car or the charger. no setting on the phone would stop 1 method and allow the other.

its makes no sence,
I have tried different cars too.
It plugs in just fine because I am using the same USB's and the are fine in the wall and in a PC. This is actually my third USB car charger.

I'm at a loss as to what may be going on. I have a Motorola car charger that I got from Verizon and it works just fine. I guess you could always take it to Verizon and see if they can determine what is going on.

so the same USB to micro USb cable from your computer that did work you moved over to a USB cigarette adaptor and it did not work and moving it back to computer worked again.. yeah, it's in the phone at this stage. no doubt. but not a setting per se, something in the physical port would be my guess as I know of no setting that could address that.

Good question - if all three cars are the same make, it could be a reversed polarity issue that you're running into....

Since the cables work elsewhere, then it is something screwy...

unless you're not turning the car on - the car has to be in ACC mode at the very least (some cars have to be in ON position) before the cigarette lighter / accessory outlet gets power).

This is the weirdest issue I think I have ever heard of. So, you cannot get it to charge on any car charger, but can get it to charge with your computer and wall charger. You have tried different chargers and different cars. You have even called Verizon support.

Ok, with all of that out of the way, have you tried having someone else use their droid (or compatible phone that has a micro USB port) with your car chargers?

I have tried three of each of the pictures below and nothing. lol

3 of these

3 of these

3 of these

its clearly something with the phone.

Motorola customer service did nothing for me, NOTHING!!!!!!
level two support also did nothing but they are going to do some research on the problem and call me back  yeah ok.

that's painting the picture...
LMFAO..
those usb/car chargers just look to sketchy to me..
usb bad enough(slow charge)
car chargers bad
usb+car charger=very bad
IMO
I have had luck with one car charger, but still keep a 125w power inverter ($20 at wally World) in the car so I can plug into AC (wall charger)if the other fails. Hell the inverter even has a usb connector..
