I'm on wifi but phone won't download OTA 2.2

The fact that the new phones are listed with 2.2 means that the build for 2.2 is final. It's just a matter of when they want to start the release for existing customers. It could be a matter of getting the team ready for any bug reports that may or may not flood in. If they thought this would require additional testing they would not include it in the specs of the new phones but instead would release it out to a small number of phones for real time testing before including it in shipped phones. Just my 2 cents.

So the way OTA's work is they push the update to a group of phones, then after a period of time they make it available to another group as well and so on. Only those in the first group will see the OTA when it is first released. The rest of us will gradually see it over the next couple of days. That's the way they've always worked. They don't want to overload their system with everybody trying to download it in the first minute. If you can't wait, as stated above, download the leaked RUU file and apply it yourself.

Ladies and Gentlemen...

The update will NOT hit every single phone at once, nor will it hit every single phone today or even the next few days!

This is an incremental roll out and can take as long as two weeks. They normally roll out several thousand updates the first day, gauge progress etc, and then ramp up from there.

Bottom line, its officially released, its starting today and you could get it any time from right now till the next week or two.

EDIT: As others have said, you cannot force it, it will come to your phone at random!

I just saw this outside my window and got really excited. Sadly, it drove away leaving me disappointed. :(

How do I make this thing get the 2.2 update via wifi?

You can't force the update unless you download via the leak. . . you're just gonna have to wait until you get a notification.

step 1: verizon releases the update

So it being listed on there website is not enough for you?

Is it enough for you??? They haven't released it or announced that it's going out OTA.

Come on they are showing new ones shipping with 2.2. It is coming!!

Some of you ... are ... ridiculous. jrmckins is not.

How is that?

@ramcharger1979: Read over it again. No one said it isn't coming. They said you can't force it until Verizon pushes it to you.... And they aren't pushing it to everyone at once.

Also, from what I've seen (I admit that I haven't been scouring the forums all morning) no one has reported in that they've gotten it yet. Even considering that only a small percentage of Incredible owners use this forum, it still seems like someone would have reported in if they had gotten the OTA.

To recap: I think it's clear that the release is imminent, but that doesn't mean you can do anything to get the OTA pushed to you sooner - we're on Verizon's schedule here.

If you go to the vzw site and go to the Incredible support page , then to wireless support , then software updates and read the updates , it plainly states ( in English ) that the the updates start today. Not to nit-pick. :)

Reading comprehension language fail. There is no combination of the words "the update will be available starting today or August 27th" on either of the PDF documents on the support page, nor on the support page itself.

All it says is "Verizon Wireless and HTC encourage you to download this
update today,"
despite not providing a link to the update. You implied that since Verizon and HTC are encouraging you to download the update today, that the update is available today. However, since there is no date on the document, you don't know when today is. If I read the document yesterday (since the document first appeared yesterday), it was available starting yesterday. or today, or tomorrow, or whenever I first read the document.

Either way, Verizon has not stated that the updates have started on August 27th.
