Accessories Droid X extended battery

I got my extended battery yesterday and also switched to froyo - so I do not know whether it is the battery or 2.2 - but I also did not get very good battery life. I am draining it today to fully recharge and try taking the battery out and reloading it - won't hurt anything even if it doesn't work. The battery stats show that the biggest drain on mine is the display - and I have it set at 30% brightness - so I do not think it is set excessively bright. I do love the slim form factor but I also like the slight extra weight.

I have 2.2 and battery life has been better compared to 2.1 Also have the extended battery.

I can now go a full day with about 10-15% left over (full day for me is about 7am to 11pm.)

I'd get better life but at work I'm in cell stand by a lot. bad signal here at work.

I got hosed with my battery! I was talking to my brother today who also has an X. The day all the action was happening, I ordered mine, then told him about it. He was still at work so he didnt order until about 2 hours later....well guess what? He got his battery yesterday and I got my backorder notice yesterday. wtf? We live only like 10 miles from eachother, so that shouldnt effect anything. I called to ask about it and the lady told me that depending on who your corporate discount thru a different "team" processes the orders....apparently my "team" is either more busy than his....or lazier :) I really wanted the battery before I go on vacation next week :(

Hi guys,

Thanks for the great experiences regarding battery life with this extended battery. I picked mine up on Tuesday (had to go to Verizon store -- online is bone-dry sold out) and got corp discount.

After charging from Noon till 2:30pm on Tuesday Aug 24, I managed to kill it on Wednesday at 10:00am. 20 hours on the first run isn't bad -- though 4 hours the phone was in airplane mode. I had heavy usage for 3 hours straight during that time and it still lasted 20 hours. Impressive.

Charged until 2:30pm yesterday on Wed Aug 25th and I have hit a charger since. More moderate and light use (15 txts, gps for 15 mins, rockplayer for 30mins, emails, 5-10 app installs/updates, music for about 2 hours, etc) since my first run and I'm still at 60% (or greater) as of typing this up right now.

Verdict: This battery is a champ. Let's hope it stays that way. :)

Oh, BTW - the stock battery SUCKED for me. I couldn't get more than 15 hours out of it, even with everything turned off and not using the phone. And I'm running the leaked Froyo build with my DX.

Thanks,
-Elo

PS. - Don't put the original cover on the with the new battery. It WILL damage your screen over time!

It's at 5% now, but I have been unplugged since Wednesday August 25 2010 @ 2:30pm!! FREAKING EPIC. Just thought I'd post some stats from the battery manager using Froyo:

Unplugged for 1 day 19 hours 2 minutes 10 seconds

Display 37%
Phone Idle 14%
Voice Calls 8%
Android System 8%
Cell Standby 7%
Android OS 5%
Mediaserver 4%
Rockplayer 3%
Wi-fi 3%
Touiteur 3%
Launcher Pro 2%

This is with what I will classify as moderate usage. Your mileage will vary.

I am a very satisfied customer, to say the least. As far as I'm concerned, this is what the X should be like right out of the box! :D

Take care!

Anyone that received an extended battery have any case issues? I was looking at the Seidio case, but it looks visually like it is very form fitting and could be tight if it fits at all with the extended battery and door. Concerned about too much pressure on the phone/screen/battery.

Does anyone else have hard cases that work (or don't work) with the extended? My extended should be sitting on my doorstep by the time i get home today (shipped from back order).

Also, to the comment that Moto left some room between the door and the ext battery, this is probably to accommodate temperature change. The battery can expand slightly...it also probably heats up more so gap probably helps with that.

I just have to ask, because I have seen two sides of the fence on this one....

Is it ok to use the original cover or not? I have heard that this can potentially mess up the screen though with the added pressure?

The only reason I wouldn't want to use a new cover is because I have Phantom Skinz installed on my phone and I'm not sure I'd be able to remove and re-install on a new cover...I'd probably have to order a new Phantom Skinz piece

Opinions? Comments? Concerns? Anything would help :D

I'm fine with Moto trying to sell us a better battery (although they should have just included it with the phone and sold a really large extended battery).

What I think they should have done though is sold the Droid X with the extended battery door (and stock battery). This way case designers would have to build cases to fit the Droid X with the extended battery or without. They could have put an insert in to fill the gap.

Now case designers have designed cases based on the model Droid X which doesn't leave room for extended batteries, and our choices for cases are significantly lowered.

I wouldn't risk it. Really not worth it. Just get another phantom skin for the back piece of the new battery door. The new battery with the standard door puts too much pressure on the screen. Just a little pressure and you can see the rainbow effect immediately.

You could get away with it, but if you want your X to last, I would advise against it.
