Hey Everyone,

As some of you may know I'm new to droids and I've had my Eris for about a month now. I'm rooted & overclocked still running stock 2.1. I noticed the past couple mornings that I'm losing over 25% of my battery every night. Last night I went to bed with 60% battery & when I woke up 6 hours later I was below 40%. I have my "screen off" profile on 245/245 and have tried 245/168 but the phone is too laggy when I wake it up. Is this normal Eris behavior? Is there anything I can do to improve the battery life? I thank you all in advance.

Try setting a screen off profile of 160/480, or even 122/480 (that's what I use.) Also, what are your default settings and profiles, including the profile priority? And your advanced settings in SetCPU?

I have the screen off profile priority set at 100. I've tried going below 245 and the phone is nearly impossible to wake up, takes roughyly 3 minutes to start performing. I don't have any advance setting set up as I'm not quite sure what they mean

Dave--I usually charge mine before I go to bed and still lose the same amount. I'm weary of leaving my phone plugged in and charging all night because it can really damage the battery. I used to charge my cell's overnight and after a while they wouldn't keep a charge anymore. I'd be careful with that, sir

It really sounds like you have some process running continuously. You shouldn't be losing that much battery overnight, nor should it be difficult for your phone to wake up from a sleep profile with min < 245. I have 19.2 min on my sleep profile and my phone wakes up without any lag.

I'm not familiar with the app called SpareParts, but I've read posts where people have used it to figure out what is draining the battery. Perhaps that's worth a look.

Yea this doesn't seem normal to me either. I can see 10-15% over night but 30% or more is awful. I'll look into spare parts and see if that will help. I'm still running 2.1 OTA and haven't had any issues other than the battery life. Although all the things I keep reading about Xtra and Kaos FroYo maybe I'll have to give 'em a shot.

I've yet to see anyone who hasn't been happy with Kaos. I think for my first ROM I'm going to stay away from FroYo and stick to either xtrROM, xtrSENSE or White Widow 4.6. I just started looking into WW and I'm really liking what I'm seeing/hearing. Have you ever tried WW? What were you thoughts with it? I'm looking for a stable, everyday, ROM that's super fast and has great battery life, obviously. I really need to just take the dive and try one of these already

I think I'm going to go with xtrROM. If I don't like it I can always try xtrSENSE or, heaven forbid, go back to my OTA haha. I d/l an app called Battery History which is just the battery portion of Spare Parts. It had a better rating and was significantly smaller in size. I don't need all the other options that came in Spare Parts. I'm curious to see whats eating at my battery all night

Ok, my phone had 50% charge before heading to bed, this morning it has 47%.

Man, something is wrong with my Eris. I flashed xtrSENSE last night and my battery was running great. I was using it heavily for a few hours and it went for 83 to 77. I shut the screen off and went to bed to wake up at 55. WTF!! If I was still on OTA It'd be even worse! Is there a way to stop your phone from synching all night, maybe that's whats causing this??? I'm perplexed.

BTW...you were right, custom ROM's are great. I love xtrSENSE but I kind of want to flash some others today just for the hell of it

There is a widget called the Power Control widget; I think it comes with xtrSENSE. One of the controls on that toggles account sync.

When I plug in my Eris at night I use that power control widget to turn off everything; wifi,3g,gps,autosync, then I Hit my "push to end" widget that comes with Advanced task manager and kill all apps that don't need to be running I only lose 1 or 2% overnight. My set cpu screen off profile is 19/245 & when I wake it up I only get about a 3 or 4 second lag, sometimes no lag. You may also want to consider a bigger batery. I was looking at the Seidio 3500 mah extended life battery for the droid eris. It claims like 230% more life & I found one on amazon for $53.00, comes with the new back panel too :D

What's up guys, so I shut sync off last night before I went to bed and was at 73% battery. When I woke up roughly 6 hours later I was at 70%...alright, now we're cooking with gas. I put sync on to check my emails and whatever else I may have received. It immedietly jumped down to 64%. This was kind of dissapointing but 9% loss is extreemly better then the 30+ I was receiving. I'm going to test it again tonight and may look into that Juice Defender if I'm still not pleased

In regards to your statement that "I don't have any advance setting set up as I'm not quite sure what they mean " You are in good company - After reading the multi page thread about battery life tricks on the other forum, I am Convinced with out doubt, that Neither do 99% of the people on these forums, Myself included!

Heres what you and everyone else has to remember

"Battery - 1300 mAh Li-on
Talk time: 214 min
Standby: 373 hrs
(The above are subject to network and phone usage)"

These figures come from HTC and represent "Non Real World usage and are best case scenarios"

Lets not forget that the HTC figure of 214 mins talk time represents the phone portion of the device, which arguably uses the least amount of battery, compared to WiFi, bluetooth, GPS, Browsing, 3G etc. and was obviously gotten with the screen off. Since the screen, by default, turns off when in a phone call. Also, lets not forget, these stats were achieved with out multi tasking or any other app running in the background. Now factor in all the other things one might do with device over the course of a day and I would bet that unless this phone is in your pocket in airplane mode there is no way the avg user will get much more then the avg work day out of it

HTC's, so far, are the ONLY proven facts, and Everybody needs to just deal with them once and for all..

All the Battery and ROM threads are full of braggers and boasters claiming utterly ridiculous battery use statistics, 18+ hours, 30+ hours, Two Days etc and all are prefaced with Non scientific stats like " Light Texting, A few texts, Medium usage, A few phone calls Etc. It doesn't take a Rocket Scientist to understand that these unproven claims are Impossible. I am convinced that no matter what trick, hack, CPU speed, advanced setting, Battery Conditioner or even Shampoo! one uses, there is no way you are EVER going to get any better battery life then HTC's Best case scenario figures! +/- 10%

To all the braggers and Boasters, Please feel free to chime in with Provable facts and Figures, Not the typical comments of Light, a few texts, some browsing etc.

I stand by my claims 100% and will subject my phone to any gimmick, trick or test if any one of you who are making the ridiculous 12+ hours of usage claims can PROVE they work or at the very least, give DETAILED stats on what "Light Usage" means.

So far I have tried almost Tip, Gimmick and Trick I have read about and My phone = Rooted with KaosFroyo, NOTHING running in the background, no widgets, all auto connect, notifications etc turned off still never gets better then about 2.5 to 3.5 hours of actual USAGE time.

It's funny how forums work, one Genius trys something, posts about it, then it becomes the Gospell to all. Until, the next genius (usually only 12 hours later) offers his or her Opinion on what is the "New best"

To sum it up, Reading the never ending ROM / Battery life threads and all the "opinions" in them is comical at best. No matter what any of us do, there is just no way we can achieve much, if any better results then the factory got under perfectly controlled test conditions.

Thanks for reading!

P.S. if any of you really think you know more then the people who made the phones, and can Prove it, I am quite certain HTC will welcome you with open arms

I'm not quite sure what you are looking for, frankly. I don't use my phone for calling much; I send and receive an average of maybe 5 to 6 text messages a day, plenty more gmail messages, of course constant on sync with Google. Sometimes I read (and reply to) a lot of messages in the gmail app in my phone, sometimes I just star them and replay when I get to a computer. I've been using the Tweetdeck beta with new message checking set to every 12 minutes. I don't always check when there are new messages, but I probably look at the app twice an hour or so during waking hours. I'd say that my display is on maybe an average of 10 to 15 minutes an hour during waking hours. I have no idea how often I browse - I am usually following links from twitter. I have the Kindle app installed and I read maybe 10 to 15 minutes a day.

I never use my phone for listening to music of any sort. That's what my iPod is for - and it's vastly better at it anyway. I have no data checking widgets anymore.

I have the seidio 1750 battery. With xtrROM, I get probably about 24-28 hours in a single charge. With kaos froyo, I get 30-34 hours or so on a charge.

That's my story.

Actual usage is what I'm looking for, what good is saying phone lasts for 18+ hours and your actual usages is perhaps 60 mins+/- as you described?

The phone has 373 hours of standby, if all any of us did was keep it in our pockets, never using it, Keeping it in Airplane mode then we would all have Incredible battery life!

But then again, what god would it be then?
