For the people who don't know, it takes 2 seconds (approximately) to help out thousands of people and become an AndroidForums celebrity! There are thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of people waiting for the Update.zip so they can manually update and finally end their longtime wait for Froyo.

But the problem is everyone is seeing the notification and going "Oh hey, wow...yeah! Froyo!" and proceeds to install! And by you doing this, you get Froyo and everyone else is still stuck in a giant circle jerk, waiting for some generous person to share the update. So here's what you do....

When the update pops up on your phone. Go into Astro File Manager (if you don't have it, download it from the Market) and go into the SDcard file system. You will see a file called "Update.zip" long press on it, select edit, copy, and then paste a copy of it in a folder of your choice on your SDcard. Later, hook your phone up to your computer and go into the file system, and get that Update.zip file out of that file that you chose and upload it to any file hosting site. Megauploads, rapidshare, even Google Docs would suffice. But a lot of people are waiting for this update!

If you don't want to go through the steps to upload it to a file share website, private message me, I will give u my e-mail, u can e-mail it to me, and I will upload it to a file sharing site.

...wait your turn in the OTA push.

I don't have it either. I'm just laughing at the level of impatience here. Some people got all pissy when the update was rumored and never confirmed by Verizon and those dates came and went. Then Verizon announces the update, when it doesn't come to YOU, you get upset.

I'm all for helping people, I do it when I can, but starting a thread so you can get something that will get to you when it gets to you, is over the top.

Seriously? I have 2.2, I got it from the RUU leak. I'm just trying to help everyone else out. Why wait when you don't have to?! There's a lot of people who don't know how to got the route of the RUU (it was a pain in the ass for me) and there's a lot of people who are using Macs and to them an EXE file is useless (I had to use a friends PC) I guess not everyone is open minded or intelligent enough to put all this together, so they just talk shit and criticize...

But - supposedly it drops into phone memory - in /cache/ directory. How do we get it to install from there without the automagical Verizon program? Putting it on the root of the SD card wouldn't be the same mechanism, would it?

If you use Astro File Manager, we have access to the cache file. You can copy from that directory but you can't paste unless you're rooted.

1. When/if you see the notification that you have an update available -- stop everything and run the aLogcat app.

2. Send the log file to yourself via email (that's built into the app)

Look through the log file on your computer, searching for a URL

3. Try any URL's that you find on your computer's browser

When you find one that downloads a zip file, save the zip file to your computer

4. Shout from the rooftops, and share that URL

5.Then upload and mirror it somewhere

(Thanks to the xda forums for the info!)
