Ok seriously this is turning into a message board mess over 2.2 so here it is the questions I need ANSWERING and probably others.

1. Is the release still happening. rumors on the net yes I know rumors are saying the DROID DROID X release bricked a ton of phones. The VZW rep I talked to today is still waiting for her DROID X upgrade. The rumors state they pulled the release till they solve these problems.

2. Can you just send someone upgrade.zip or .rar whatever it is to the rest of the masses?

3. Is the release better than rooting versions?

4. How do you get it I know its OTA but does the phone need to be on 3g only or wifi?

5. Is there a period of inactivity the phone has to have and idling before it sends the upgrade?

6. Are you seeing improvements in battery life and speed in your phone?

7. How many of you really have it? I dont mean nope dont got it here not here yet either I Mean reply only when you have it when you think it came through and where you are including when you activated so we maybe we can get a pattern going here.

8. After you got the upgrade is your phone working better or now having problems?

8. Can an VZW store push the upgrade onto your phone? has this been confirmed?

VZW doesn't have the answers HTC plays dumb so all we have is each other to get what is going on?

Merge this if you want but at least keep the clarity. Personally I could care less about rooting. I just want the update they way it is suppose to come.

Some searching through these forums will answer most of your questions.

1. The rollout is still happening. The first couple days have been small test groups. Supposedly this number will ramp up by 10x on Monday.

2. Technically yes, but nobody has obtained the update.zip yet. The RUU is basically the same thing in an .exe package, and is widely available.

3. This newest release should be more stable or complete than the month+ old root versions.

4. You can get the OTA notification as long as you have a signal.

5. No.

6. Speed, much improved. Battery, dunno yet.

7. Seems about 10% or less of the forums has the "real" Verizon OTA. Other people have it through the RUU or other means.

8. Working better.

8 (again). Seems they cannot, until the rollout has completed.

yes if you weed through all the off topic nonsense yeah you can get some answers but why don't we have one post with all the answers so people who like to keep things on topic and get their answers fast can. BTW thanks for some of the answers There are still rumors they pulled it and are waiting weeks again to re release it <--- wow that looks strange re re . anyhow thought this might help some.

I read the same thing somewhere. VZW was having issues witht the OTA and going to try to resolve those before starting the push again...

Im confused at why this thread is happening. Theres 47 2.2 threads and they are all the same thing. You will get 2.2 when you get it. 100's of thousands of people bought this phone. I dont understand why you think its easy to send a relatively large file over the air for probably 250,000+ people.

I could see if there were severe problems with this phone and the update was the only thing that could make it functional, then yea be upset until you get it. But this phones ridiculous as it is. Just be patient and wait. If you dont wanna wait, root the official 2.2 leak. Its not hard and its confirmed same thing as this. I dont understand all the confusion about a software update...lol

Since this rumor was posted, vzw twitter denied it and a few people have claimed to have received the update.

I still think the op is a troll. Otherwise why did he talk about droid x?

I flashed the RUU yesterday and it works great! My phone is MUCH faster and I've had NO issues. I am a power user and drain the battery quickly usually. I have a full charge now and will see how the battery lasts since the update.

I also already have Froyo rooted on my phone as well.

No waiting here. I'm happy.

just got off the phone with verizon rep and she said that they are having problems with the east coast on the *228 only, and that doing this over and over to try to push the update isnt going to help. the update is being release in order, 10,000 at a time and it goes by your phone id number. now, if this is true or not, oh well, but as of 10 am est sunday, this is the verizon rep update. hope this helps :D

How could anyone possibly know that, without it being widespread knowledge all over the forums? This is the first im hearing of a 10x rampup on Monday.

He had specific questions, not everybody can weed through 5,000 posts to find a few answers. And the search tool isnt particularly helpful. IMO we should just have a subforum and let all these questions pile up. People are part of a community, and we should be allowed to make a new post if we want to .. without being in fear that god forbid it might be redundant.

I dont understand why VZW doesnt just provide a link to the file. Im sure it would be snagged and seeded by lots of people so their bandwidth wouldnt be horrible (as if thats a concern of a company that size)

I did this post not to be in a hurry for the update but to clarify all the questions people are trying to ask but having trouble finding thats all My phone works just fine on the 2.1 no complaints. Matter in fact id have to say I dont use it as a phone but really a computer or small ipad but it does sooo incredibly much with all the apps out there. With my illness my phone is a life saving device that a fingertip can get me the help or knowledge I need. And yes the VZW rep on the phone said droid X or maybe since her connection was so bad she said droid next. SHE hasn't gotten the update yet either. Look this is best phone I have ever owned and used as much as I do. I mean I have camo pain job on a body glove case and the phone rotates randomly 300 backgrounds all day long. I sit down at like starbucks and people just stop and want to know what it is. There are more smudges on it from people checking out than my own. So I'm happy but was just getting frustrated of going through 5000 or so posts with lame pictures and responses to people asking the much needed questions and if this post works like I hope it does it will have people want to ask more questions.

a little patience shouldn't be too much too ask for. If you can't wait a few days for an upgrade to your phone, I really feel sorry for you, and those around you.

I keep seeing people say this, but in all fairness, after I pay hundreds of dollars to bring a cell phone home and watch it reboot all night, I'm a little antsy for an update.

Now if everything was working great, then I wouldn't care, but $500 for our phones after taxes and crap, $160 a month for a bill, and countless reboots later....I'm ready for the problem to be solved.

Amen. The fact that we are just now seeing a major update, is obnoxious. Bugs need to be fixed. And sadly im hearing a few of them are still not fixed which leaves me feeling like they may never be.

Mine got stuck stuck in that random loop as well. But I called tech support had me push some buttons and I had to reload everything but the phone was working. THEY have no idea why it does it. god I hope android isnt like the old windows code where bit and pieces of code are left behind from opening and closing applications. REMEMBER THAT???? ugh
