Okay, so I was wondering is there is a way to have your phone continue to notify you, by vibrating or making the notification sound every 5,10,15,etc minutes? Most of the time when I get a text I have to go into the messages widget to actually see that I got one, because the icon in the status bar disappears either after a short period of time, or when I just turn the screen on. (Which if I'm not paying attention I miss the text icon in the status bar) It's a bit annoying seeing as how I've missed some of my text by several hours. :(
Maybe I'm just a noob, it's highly likely. :)

Also, what's a good launcher?

Thanks!

Crosseyed, get Launcher Pro from the app store. It has a setting that puts a number on the message widgets letting you know how many unread texts you have. Also, it keeps the mail icon in the status bar until you actually read the text. It's pretty great. :)

Of course you may not like the launcher. You can use what CrimsonPride suggested, but I kinda found it a bit clunky.

I haven't used Android yet (my Captivate arrives tomorrow) but I'm really surprised to read that if you miss the initial notification of a text you don't get reminded of it. It doesn't even leave an icon in the status bar until you've read the text(s)? I'm a bit shocked, coming from an old iPhone that alerts me a couple times via sound/vibrate and then tells me how many texts I've missed when I unlock the phone.

you can turn notifications on in the drop down menu, and it stays there so everytime you turn the screen on you can see there is a message. if you want audible/vibrate notifications every 5 mins or whatever you need handcent

My captivate keeps it in the notification bar until I read it. (EDIT: I may not be remembering touchwiz launcher correctly, I didn't use it that long but I remember it keeping it there til I read it...things like that tend to annoy me a lot) Are you guys using any task killers? My notifications were disappearing before I read them and the culprit was my task killer. I personally found the iPhone very annoying for how it notified you of text messages. Android is discrete but it should definitely keep it in the notification bar until you have actually read it.

@phoneixrose - I found the missed text message count didn't disappear if I accessed my text messages via the notification bar. Sometimes my text message icon would indicate I had missed 5 texts when in reality I had read and replied to all of them. I hope launcher pro fixes it in their next update. Until then if you turn this feature on pretend like your notification bar doesn't exist...
