Root Rooted + New ROM + Overclock

Your answers are all quite useless. You talk about different ROM's but never give any details of why one is better/worse.

Personal preferences don't count. I need some hard facts. Answers like "it's lame" make you, the poster, sound like an ignorant person.

I all these ROM's are nothing more than pretty screens then the whole thing is worthless and we might as well just use the standard HTC ROM.

If your phone worked well before rooting, then you're not going to be able to tell much difference with a new ROM. The general consensus is that the phones work with much less lag once rooted and on a good ROM ('good' in this instance is very subjective, so if you're holding your breath waiting for lots of good hard facts, I'd suggest you not do that :) )
Before rooting my phone had horrible dialer lag, which was the only problem I had. I've tried a half dozen different ROMs (I keep coming back to xtrROM) and any of them has had less lag than stock - which is the most common 'hard fact' you'll see mentioned.

I encourage you, then, to create a series of performance tests, run them, and publish them for the benefit of everyone else. Personally, I have better things to do than that.

Before I rooted, I had several problems with my phone:

- the browser would FC every time I first opened it
- the calendar app kept sounding alarms for events with no way to dismiss them, so every five minutes they would resound, as if I had snoozed the alarm.
- I never used the Sense launcher, or Peep, or Amazon MP3 store, but the apps could not be stopped and could not be uninstalled.

Rooting has fixed all of these problems. Because I can underclock as well as overclock, my phone has better battery life than stock, so I never have to worry about plugging in during the day (I would get 18-26 hours before; I get 30-34 hours on a charge now.) With stock my phone would lag when it received a call, to the point where it took to as much as the fourth ring before I saw who was calling - this does not happen rooted. The phone feels faster when I am running it. I can uninstall the Amazon MP3 store app for any ROM that includes it. I can back up the state of my market apps at any time, wipe my phone, and quickly restore them, with data, and with market links. Because I am running a Froyo ROM, my gmail app includes features which I prefer that the stock 2.1 gmail does not include. With an app like Autokiller, I can set Android default background management so that the phone is not as bogged down with background apps as with stock.

Or, if you prefer stock, that's fine, just unroot and run stock. It's your phone.

I run Kaos Froyo, because it seemed to me that he was ahead of the curve on adding features, and the other devs followed (i.e., getting the camera to work, getting the trackball notifications stable, adding the latest google apps when they were released with the Google Voice Actions, etc.) But kaos, CELB Froyo, and Cyanogen Tazz seem pretty similar. Nonsensikal has added themes to the Froyo ROMs (and Tazz has a new theme now as well), but I have only tried Kaos and CELB myself, and both ran fine for me. I have used Kaos almost exclusively for the last 17 days, and have had zero problems with it. Well, except for graphics problems with the Gallery app if you switch from portrait to landscape while looking at the first screen in the app (I don't have problems with the app when looking at individual photos.)

That said, I think that xtrROM may feel like the fastest ROM available for the Eris, and many of the core apps - the browser, contacts/people, messenger, the status bar - are the same core HTC apps in stock Eris 2.1, so, if you like those, I think that xtrROM (or xtrSENSE, if you prefer the Sense launcher) are two of the best around.

if you're not seeing the difference, then you should just go back to non root.

this way you won't be messing with the Verizon warranty and you won't have to deal with this forum not giving you the answers you want to hear.

several people gave you some great advice and you slagged them off cause of your limited understanding of this phone and rooting in general. This makes you look silly.
suggesting that these roms are all just pretty screens is an insult to the developers that work hard on these roms. But also to this community that can see and utilize the great features in all of these roms. It may not be for, you may not be able to see it.

^^^^Sheesh..chill out bud. I am a developer as well and I have to take criticism on my apps. It is simply my opinion and I am not insulting anyone. However, answers like the one about "lame" are worthless.

I understand perfectly what root is. I am not saying that these ROM's are not worthy for their creators and others. I am saying that for many it will not make any difference.

I am trying to find one that does. If not then - for me -it's not worth it.
