Help Swype Custom Dictionary

yes you can see it, edit it, etc.

Settings / Keyboard / User dictionary

I don't think it shows when you enter words through normal typing, but it does let you add words there which will work when you use swype.

Huh?! That's the stock keyboard user dictionary and not the sywpe user dictionary.

Are you saying you are definitely seeing custom words that you've added with swype in there?

I'm pretty sure that's only for the stock keyboard.

So anyone else know where to find/view the swype custom dictionary?

Is there any way to view my swype custom directory and see all of the words that I've manually added?

Studying the tutorial and doing a google search for "swype custom dictionary" gives the answer of "No". However, opening the swype tutorial and going to the "edit" section will show ways to add and delete words.

Hope this helps (and new to swype so hope I am right :D)

Yes, I know how to add and delete words, but there's no way to delete something if you don't know it's in the dictionary.

Swype adds words automatically if you type (not swype) the word and then hit the spacebar. I must have so many non-words in the dictionary by now. Also, if you type a password in a field that's not officially tagged as a password field, it could very well get saved and be a security issue.

Sounds like there's no way to get at the customer dictionary or someone would have known by now.

Sorry if I wasn't clear - manually adding words to this dictionary WILL show up when using swype. But words you add when typing via the keyboard will not show up in this dictionary.

Didn't know that and that's interesting but still no answer to the original question.

Can't believe that no one has figured out where the user dictionary is stored even if we can't get at it.

We know that, please read the thread again and then contribute if you have something to add.
I did contribute and I did have something to add. I assumed you wanted to see the dictionary so that you could remove a word. I didn't realize you just wanted to browse it live to amuse yourself or otherwise. You don't need to be curt with me like that when I'm just trying to help you out.

I was going to bother going through the entire hierarchy of the phone's directories and attempt to find the actual location of the Swype dictionary so that you could attempt to edit it manually yourself, but I guess you don't want my help. DIY.

I've been trying to do this for weeks. A few days of drunken swyping and you add a bunch of wrongly spelt words. NOw when i type and i see a wrong word in the swype suggestion box, i just choose that word and delete it then, then continue on wiht my typing. Not the most effecient method though.

I just used Root Explorer to search for all swype related files and think i found the databases, but they aren't in a format that you can edit them on the phone. Will have to try from home when i get the chance.

my best guesses as to which has it would be this one below
/data/data/com.swype.android.inputmethod/swypedata/udb/UserData.udb

or if not that then one of these two, but i am pretty sure it is that one

/system/lib/libSwypeCore.so

or

/data/dalvik-cache/system@app@Swype.apk@classes.dex

Im a Symbian s60v5 OS user, nokia 5800..

the only reason im on symbian is we got swype back in september and i cant let go.

whenever we reset our phone to factory, we back up our userData.udb, to keep and retain all our personal words. only that file, 117kb, and nothing else.

i successfully imported 2000 words on it by opening a .txt file with our language, FIlipino, select all text, then press the swype key, it froze for 2 mins, thenboom! got 2000 words nto swype!

God! if you can make this work, or import the same userdata.udb from my phone to an android, i'll buy my self one tomorrow and ditch my Symbian os!

*planning to buy LG optimus, the one with froyo, but i need to make sure swype will work on it!

symbian community is also looking for ways to access the database, for the same reasons as you'all, but still no success.

*if you can attach your userdata.udb, i could try it on my phone,

Hilarious for MANY reason...(1) just the concept of "drunken swyping" and (2) your drunken spelling in this post with your "spelt" and wiht":D:D!!

This may be a bit extreme but on another forum I found info on how to completely wipe the dictionary, then if you keep a txt file with the custom words you use you can import that back in like bajie23 did.
Clearing the Swype Dictionary

"There is no way to clear, edit, or manipulate the swype user dictionary entry by entry. You can erase all your custom words and settings by going to Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Swype>Clear Data

You will have to reconfigure swype's settings in Settings>Keyboard & Language>Swype Settings, but your user dictionary will be cleared."

To delete a word from the Swype custom dictionary:
  • Enter the word you want that brings up the bothersome word(s)
  • Select the word you want to delete. If it's in the edit window with other words, double tap it.
  • Tap the Swype key
  • Tap OK when asked if you want to delete the word.

Works like a charm for me. Good luck y'all!!

Note to anyone reading this...this ONLY works with the "personal dictionary"...that is, the one where you the user have accepted/added words to the dictionary. If you are trying to get rid of the word "Italy" that is in SWYPE'S non-user/non-customizable dictionary because it is always suggested when you try to swype "initially" then you're out of luck!!

Also, in the latest beta, the ENTIRE "custom" personal dictionary can be viewed and edited in the settings/preferences section of Swype located at Home....Menu...Settings...Language & Keyboard..Swype Settings...Personal Dictionary. There you can BULK delete words or add right from settings rather than in a text area your are swyping.

We need the location of the Swype database. We ALL know how to select text and press the Swype button. It tells us that................

We are interested in the location of the Swype database in the FILESYSTEM. Not instructions on how to delete single words manually. Obviously, that is far too easy to achieve.

We need the location of the Swype database in the FILESYSTEM so that we may COPY the database, AUDIT the database, and REPLACE the database with the edited one. To everyone who does not understand this...reread it and let it absorb into your thick skulls. Then post a reply. Don't reply about my harshness. My harshness is due to the stupidity of people not answering OP's original question and instead offer useless information that is considered redundant by the OP.

OP here.

/dev/null, I guess you missed it, but as Scudder pointed out, this is a non-issue now that the custom database can now be edited. Swype also doesn't automatically add words anymore so there's less of a need to edit the custom dictionary.

Please read next time before you call others stupid.
