Going from Omnia to Droid

Going from the Samsung Omnia to the Motorola Droid, after comparing the specs, I've noticed that the Droid's processor at 550mhz is running at a slower frequency as the samsung omnia. Does the new processor technology on the droid make it a faster processor still? Or does android simply require less processor speed?

I don't know exactly what it is, but the difference between the Droid and the Omnia is night and day, winner: Droid. I switched from the Omnia to my Droid, and the only thing I miss is not being able to sync to Outlook on my PC. Everything else is much nicer.

I'm unwilling to send my confidential information to Google, so I'm waiting for an app that will enable syncing to my desktop. I can wait. In the interim, NotesEverything can keep notes with anything I really need on the Droid, and it can import .txt files from my desktop PC.

Really like the Droid.

You have to realize that WinMo is very feature packed from the get go. It comes standard with a whole bunch of stuff on board. Android is pretty bare bones and let's YOU choose what you want to install. The Android OS takes up wayyyy less space than WinMo.

I just did some quick Googling, and I'm still not 100% sure, but from what I read, HTC Sync only works on HTC phones (duhhh) and the Motorola Droid is not an HTC phone. Additionally, I found some commenters that indicated that HTC Sync has some issues.

If I'm wrong, and it will work on the Motorola Droid, which is what I own, pls provide a link that confirms this.

Sorry, I assumed you had an HTC, my mistake. I'm sure there's a similar app for Motorola users as well though.

Droid uses and omap proccessor supposed to be better, I'm on the fence though. And a GPU? Correct me if I'm wrong. Either way I was running a vanilla adrynalyn rom on my omnia and it wasn't as fast as my droid.

I had the omnia, w/ cooked rom and custom yadda yadda yadda...

the droid is faster, more responsive, easier to use, more flexible. The droid hands down kills the droid in every considerable way. I would never go back to the omnia for a whole list of reasons. if you want to know them I will write them all down.

i had an omnia as well and the droid is just so much better. even if the proc is a little faster on the omnia. droid just outshines omnia in every way. omnia isnt really a "smartphone", its more like a PPC. not finger friendly and it pretty much needs a stylus for a lot of stuff, and the fact that theres no slot to store the stylus really sucks. plus its resistive which also sucks.

I used to own an Omnia before my Droid too, The awesome part about my Omnia was that I was able to throw that sucker with all my might into my drywall when the Droid came out! I had so much problems with it, it will freeze all the time on me and the battery when charged would last me not even a half-day, internet browsing just sucks on it! soo laggy. sure the processor may look faster then the Droids on paper but it performs like a 400mhz with freeze-ups all the time. Droid is 10000000000000000++++ times better then the Omnia..

ok ... i had 4 omnias. i'm on droid #2 now. you HAVE to use a cooked rom on the omnia in order for it to perform well. here's what you are missing out of the box by switching TO the droid.

1. voice activated music, pics, video, dialing, notes, ...anything but nav.
2. video out
3. customizable buttons
4. many many many useless apps
5. omnia's AWESOME camera ... (droid's is lame)

you do gain about 1000 pounds of weight. the omnia is like a feather compared to this thing, but who cares.

probably more that i can't just think of, BUT i do like the droid SO much better. it has always seemed much faster than the omnia. with the update, it's not even close. i'm still waiting on some basic (imo) voice commands, but other than that, i'm pretty happy. i can live without the other stuff. i know there are apps that let you do some of these things, but it would be nice if they were native. my only REAL complaint is that the camera is god awful unless you have a serious amount of light ... like outside mid day light.

I really liked my Omnia, it did everything I needed it to do and then some. After having it for about a year I discovered that Windows is Windows and it doesn't matter if it's on a desktop or a phone. Performance will steadily decline. It seems to be a Windows thing.

I didn't modify it in any way. I didn't need to, it came with everything I needed. It just started to run slower and slower while locking up intermittently.

The Droid has been a blessing. I had my Omnia syncing its calendar with Google calendar. Now it's direct.

True, the Droid's got its bugs and quirks but nothing that's been a deal breaker for me. Besides, it will only get better over time.

Oh man how did I fail to mention the Omnia's camera. That thing was the bom-diggity. If you have any basic photography knowledge then that camera had a lot to offer.

Listen... Hands down the Droid kicks the ever living crap out of the Omnia. I had the Omnia since Feb of 2009. It was hands down the worst piece of Microsoft OS crap I have ever seen. How they could sell that phone and get away with it is beyond me.

I was lucky when my Omnia died last month and they sent me a new one. I ebay'd that piece of crap and closed the account. I bit the $130 cancellation fee, lost my old number, etc.

Was it worth it??? Hell yes... I have never been happier about a phone in all my life. I do not even use my laptop anymore because the Droid kicks so much ass and is lightning quick.

Do yourself a huge favor, go a buy a Droid now. Do not walk, but run to the nearest store and beg for a Droid. You owe it to yourself to do so.

Oh yeah, forgot to add... My first Omnia died because I could not do an "align screen" on it. It would keep going in a loop and wouldn't align at all. The verizon tech support had me do a Hard Reset, and that was the end of it. I lost everything...

I keep reading "Omnia" in this thread. I have to kick the Droid (poor call quality on all 3 sets Verizon's given me) and am considering switching to Omnia II. I need a good phone and good access to my company's Microsoft Exchange based Outlook calendar and email. The rest is fun, but just bonus. Anybody able to compare Droid to Omnia II, particularly regarding call quality?

From what I have read and seen firsthand, the Omnia II SUCKS!!! It is extremely laggy and slow in doing everything. Besides, why would you want to take a step back to WinMo? And that is coming from a person who use to love WinMo and had it on all phones for years. My Omnia and WinMo was good, but after Droid and Android, why would you want to go back? Try it at the store, but when I did (just curiosity) I hated it. Samsung let me down on it.
