picking up a captivate this week

hey guys i am a current AT&T user i have an unlocked mytouch and iphone 4 and need to upgrade things on the android side and will be picking up a captivate this week i am wondering are there any "popular" flaws people have exprienced? loose battery doors lifting screens? etc. i know these types of problems are common and i used to see them with blackberries all the time so im just wondering if there should be any key areas to pay extra attention to before leaving the store?

thanks guys

The issue that (nearly) everyone has is GPS, but Samsung has indicted that they intend to have a firmware update soon (September?) to hopefully fix this.

The battery takes a bit of conditioning to improve its lifespan - running it from full to empty a handful of times seems to work wonders, and apps like JuiceDefender, 3G Watchdog, and TasKiller don't hurt either.

Some people have reported issues with random shutdowns/restarts...while this *seems* to be related to bad apps, it could simply be a defective phone - if that's the case, return it in your 30 day window for a new phone.

I believe that's the most discussed issues...all considering, not too bad. Froyo should also be coming out "soon" (again, September?) ... and that should improve things like lag (which isn't all that bad to begin with).

yea it seems to be some software issues which i am not concerned with as i will most likely be rooting right away and ditchign touchwiz lol thanks for the heads up tho im just mainly concerned with hardware issues.

The hardware is stellar, I've had quite a few smartphones on all platforms, and the Captivate is very nice. No creaks or other noises, battery door and closure is very well engineered. I attribute that to the composite plastic inner chassis in combination with the all metal exterior, and gorilla glass display. Fit and finish is the best.

I've been getting great battery life after removing default settings, especially considering how heavily I use it. No GPS issues or anything else of any consequence. Even TouchWiz 3.0 is not bad. Certainly not like it performs once rooted, but quite good when compared to Sense which is largely held in high regard.

You're going to enjoy the Captivate...:)

i hadnt had the shutdown problem till 2 days ago when it shutdown twice in about an hour. i rebooted in recovery as i was going to flash odin after i had backed it up but i cleared the cache and havent had a problem since.

but other then that ive had 0 problems, my gps works pretty good, i used navigation once and it got me to where i was going with no problem but i did put in my destination from my house which gave it awhile to lockon so that may have helped

anyway in my opinion this is the best phone on the market, looks 100x better than the vibrant imo, screen is perfect size, and i dont like physical keyboards and added weight of the epic 4g
