I've pretty much ported the smoked glass theme we all have come to know and love and packaged it into a pretty awesome FRG22D Based Froyo ROM. This is an update to my original posting found here:
http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/droid-mods/3855-rom-smoked-glass-charity-themed-rom-frg22-version-6-0-a.html

I don't think asking for personal donations is in line with the ideas behind open source software. Thus, I have decided to collect donation money for charity.

Please Donate, read below...

ALL (100%) of the money will go to NATIONAL PARK FOUNDATION: Oil Disaster Recovery. I will be fully transparent in this process and will show any donors proof of the organization's receipt. I know this is a new idea, I hope it catches on. Please check out the organization at:

Send donations directly by clicking the link above, or PM me for my PayPal address.

So far I have gotten excellent feedback on the ROM.

Here's some info on it:

Instructions...

Backing up...
Google saves your contacts, programs, settings, and bookmarks on the cloud.
You can double-back up program with Titanium backup, which will also backup application settings
You can back up text messages with a market app called "SMS Backup & Restore".

File is in the UPDATE.ZIP format.

Clockworkmod
Place the file you downloaded anywhere on the SD Card. Easiest place would be the root directory.
Chose "Install zip from sdcard" from the main menu
Select "Chose zip from sdcard"
Browse to the file (SG701-update.zip) and select it. Confirm the install, let it do it's magic.
Reboot.

SPRecovery
Rename the file you downloaded to update.zip and place it in the root of the SD Card.
Select Install from the main menu
Select Allow update.zip Installation
Select Install /sdcard/update.zip (deprecated)
Reboot.

If you are running the most recent version of my ROM, you may not need to wipe data/cache (factory reset). It's never a bad idea though. If you bootloop, that is the reason.

Here's a few quick screenshots:

Tapping the analog clock widget doesn't pop up alarm settings anymore. Renaming DeskClockGoogle.apk (back) to GoogleDeskClock.apk fixed this.

Thanks for the stock brightness fix! Loved v6.0 but it was just too dark for my old eyes in ambient light on Auto.

No problem! And thanks for pointing out the clock issue. will fix in next version.

Is it possible to extract just the theme out of this so I can use it with CM6-RC3? How easy would that be?

There are similar themes for CM6 readily available. It would not be possible for me to do this because CM6 uses different /system apps and framework files than frg22d (base of my ROM). you can download the zip of the ROM and pull out whatever images/icons you want and put them into cm6. images are in the /drawable and /drawable-hdpi folder of APKs, the XMLs you need are in /res/layout. Give my ROM a try - i've used both and i like mine more =)

I am fully enjoying this rom as it is closest to my needs of what is currently available. I like simple roms with a few key features- and this hits the big ones with wireless tether, minimum brightness, HQ video.

I've tried basically everything but prior to this I was running vanilla FRG22 the most for simplicity. However, I really missed having a good theme and this rom takes care of that handily, looks beautiful.

The included kernel worked well, but I ended up switching to Slayher's 900Mhz. My phone has no trouble running any of the kernel's up to 1200Mhz (even uLV), but Slayher's just seem to get more performance out of less clock speed which spells success for my temp and battery life.

So many roms these days make you choose between Launcher Pro and ADW and I just can't stick with either of those. I am absolutely in love with the stock 'dots' buttons for cycling thru homescreens, swiping seems so inefficient now. And I can't stand how ADW won't keep the dots in the lower corners when in widescreen (I use my phone with keyboard out most of the time)

So bravo on a simple and streamlined, fast and efficient, gorgeous rom! It is much appreciated.

I'm not going to lie I had your 6.0 version and I loved it. The only reason I switched to CM was peer pressure and that I could change my LED to purple haha. But so far the SG that comes with CM sucks, the LED is buggy and just lights up solid, and the whole customization aspect of the ROM is very very VERY overrated. The Low brightness settings are not compatible with Auto brightness, yours are, and I HATE their super cool custom boot screen. It basically says "Hey look I customized this phone and made it beautiful, OH WAIT Cyanogen did it for me." Plus you keep up to date with the builds. CM uses the FR01B build, which was two builds ago at least. I am very picky but I will not use an overrated ROM when there are much more beautiful ones out there (like yours) just because everyone else is doing it. If you added notification LED changing capabilities, I would change immediately. On a side note, I secretly wanted to change the theme colors from black and green to black and purple. I don't think there were any other significant things I changed or got out of CM that I couldn't get from you. Obviously I got a little worked up while writing this but I hope you could take the compliments and suggestions out of this without any heat towards you, because there was none intended. Thanks for reading.

PS If I end up porting your theme over to CM, which I might do if I have ANY free time while taking all these damn AP classes, I would not really know how to publish it. I do plan to fully credit you and emphasize all the work you put into this, so please drop me a PM or something to let me know how you think I would do that. Thanks haha

Here is an example of changing images in the ROM to make to your own preferences. In the picture you can see I've changed my icons on the Launcher for the browser and phone to that of Watermark'D LP Icons, which he created and generously put out for everyone to use. Just like Dew said above all you have to do is switch the images in the APK files and, one of the easiest ways to do that, is to use the program 7-Zip to open them(open Archive) without extracting, that way you don't have to mess with resigning the APK. Also, just wanted to say I've tried every ROM out there and I still think Smoked Glass is the best ROM... IMO. Thank you Dew!

Thanks for all your work on this ROM. It's exactly what I've been looking for in terms of speed and aesthetics. I also love that it's based on the latest and greatest version of Android, when others are still using older builds. Now I can have the newest official updates without going back to stock -- truly the best of both worlds IMO. :D

I just installed the ROM and it's GREAT!!! I had the rooted FRG22 and was frustrated that it didn't do wifi as well as before and some apps were missing from Market. Now the missing apps (including Flash) are back and it seems like wifi is better. Maybe the whole thing is faster - I haven't looked into everything, yet, but I'm definitely liking my updated moto droid.

I see a new app, DSPManager, that's not on the list. Lots of stuff to check out.

I used SPrecovery. To make the instructions more complete (for relative newbies like me), you could add: Turn off the phone, Turn on while holding X on the keypad. (before Select Install) and change the last line to Select Reboot System Now.

Thanks for making this available to all.

I really like this ROM; thanks for all your hard work. It is fast, stays cool and seems to be great on battery life so far. After trying several ROMs, there is no doubt this is my favorite.

I don't know what happened, though. My SD card no longer functions; I've been trying for hours to get it up and running again. Can you say toast?

One question, please: is there a way you can include the great reboot options I've seen in other custom ROMs? Some of them give you the option to reboot into recovery, shut the phone off or just plain reboot. Is there a way to add that functionality to this excellent ROM? (Of course, it won't do me any good until I get a new SD card :))

What might have happened to the SD card? Is there a way to fix it? Thanks in advance for your invaluable response.

Have you tried another SD Card to see if it will work with your phone? I have had an SD Card go bad before because i didn't eject it from my mac before disconnecting the USB cable. Macs and SD Cards and finicky in that regard. Also, try reading the SD Card through your computer or any other device. If windows/mac say it needs to be formatted, try formatting it. When mine went bad i took it to the VZW store and it was covered under the phone's manufacturer's warranty.

Otherwise, I'm glad you're enjoying the ROM. In terms of adding a reboot option, you have to do that when you build a ROM from source. I'm currently in the process of learning how to do it =) If and when i am able to build from source, that will definitely be added to the ROM. In the meantime, check out a program called quick boot. It's what i use for quick reboot/reboot into recovery - great simple program.

Enjoy the ROM!
