Hotmail corporate (Exchange) sync working

I just tried the corporate sync using the new Hotmail exchange activesync settings and it worked! I've been trying off and on since I got my X knowing this was coming. Seems to have finally worked today.
I deleted my POP3 account from the phone for hotmail and added a corporate sync account using:
- My full hotmail address for both domain/username and the email address fields. I did not enter a leading backslash for the domain.
- m.hotmail.com for the server name.
- I left on SSL.

Preemptive anti-hotmail response:
I've used this same HoTMaiL account since the mid-90's, before it was even owned my Microsoft. The fact that this inbox isn't a spam-ridden POS is a testament to the tool.

No more POP3! I can finally manage my mail ONCE!

EDIT: Microsoft reports that not all 2.1 Android phones can use this service due to a known "client" bug. They have not yet detailed which phones have this issue. It seems that the X is one of the compatible ones and is why I posted this.

Out of curiosity, what's the advantage of doing this versus the POP3 method?

True two way sync. I read a message on my phone and its marked as read when I look at my inbox online. Delete online, the message in gone on the phone. It also syncs contacts and my calendar. I believe the email pushes vs polled - but I could be wrong about that.

I've been waiting for this to come as well. Got it set up but I can't get the syncing to work. If I delete an email on my phone it won't delete it off the server. Haven't tried the reverse. Don't know if I've got something set up wrong or what. It's like it's still using pop3.

Aardvark, are you on 2.1 or 2.2?

Yeah, it seems less than perfect. Deletes on the server sync to the phone, but deletes on the phone do not (same for read/unread I think). I also seem to not be getting notifications while I'm sitting here, but I thought I've seen some earlier today.

Funny that this all works fine with my work exchange account. Anything I do on the phone syncs perfectly (and fast) with the server and vise versa.

Oh well, hopefully it'll improve.

Edit: I'm on 2.1

I don't know how quickly it pushes, but right now it hasn't worked for neither my 2.2 DX or my wife's stock 2.1. If it eventually does push I'll edit this and let you guys know.

*Edit* FYI - This never worked for either phone and I have since removed hotmail once again and forward everything to gmail.

so although I got it "working" on my DX, it would not sync from server to phone (if I marked something as read on the phone it would still should as unread on the server/website; if I mark as read on the server/site it WOULD sync and show as read on the phone). Until recently - Sunday the 5th - I stopped getting ANY emails. I went to the Hotmail site on my DX browser and saw there were 2 new messages that were sent to me on Sunday, but as of Monday at 5 PM, I still had not received them. So I actually deleted one of the messages from the site and wouldn't you know, it appears in my inbox minutes later. this makes no sense whatsoever. Data Push is checked and the fetch schedule is 15 minutes. Why was I not getting ANY messages? furthermore, when I DELETE one of the messages that wasn't sent to my phone, why did it come up on my phone seconds later? Why is it picking and choosing which email(s) to send to my phone?! God I miss my Blackberry for emailing.

Thank you for this...I removed my hotmail from the phone weeks ago because I hated double deleting all the messages. This method works perfectly! Delete from X and it deletes on PC, delete from PC and it deletes on X. Anything sent is also there and deletes along with the bit of junk I get too...excellent and finally!!! Like you, I've been using hotmail for close to 10 years without issue and didn't want to start up another primary email.

I did notice if you delete from the widget, it does not delete from PC...you must enter messaging and delete from there. Also, refresh is your friend, upper left corner or menu key within messaging, to see instant results.

Thanks again _Aardvark :D

I am glad to see that MS finally enabled ActiveSync for Hotmail. I would say though give them some time to work out the bugs. I mean enabling it for that many email accounts will take some time and I'm sure there will be bugs.

At any rate, I wanted to ask someone from this thread if the built in mail app on the X has a limit on the number of days to sync your email. For example, the HTC Mail client only allows you to sync up to a month's worth of email. Does the X have that same limitation or can you "sync all"?

biggest issue with the X and EAS is this, the EAS built into 2.1 SUCKS. It works, but intermittently. I have been using Hotmail with EAS since I got my X, and the biggest issue is that EAS just will not sync at times, gives an error that it cannot communicate with the server.

For the most part, that has gone away this past week, but I have noticed that I still get emails through Hotmail / EAS and there is rarely a notification in the toolbar that I have a new email.

This is *supposed* to be fixed in 2.2, but we shall see.

Maybe. Right now, I have the Inc with 2.2...I'm having to use the stock 2.2 mail app to connect and it does but, intermittently.

It is working, including delete from server (Via live on my PC) and delete on my phone, everything I do get sync including read/unread flags - great

also I can now see my folders - cools

but here is an issue, I have a corperate account, and two hotmail accounts I failed to configured the second one, only one hotmail is working, anyone know why ?
I tried deleting both and configured the second (the one that does not work) first (and only) did not work (Ithought maybe there is some limit to the number of accounts)

BTW I can send emails from that hotmail account, and I see no error, but I do not see any emails on my fodlers of inbox

any idea ?

So I understand why it was not working for me , it actually getthe mails, but on the other hotmail account I had messages older than one month, and it does show me only last month messages, this is over all myaccounts hotmail or really exchange.

the account is configured to sync 'all' not just last month, but thats not doing anything
anyone else saw this ?

I just established the corporate sync and while it far superior to the POP3 app. The notification settings for folders is not available.

That is most likely why some of you noticed intermintent notifications.

I will only recive a notification when an email is sent directly to my inbox instead of directly to one of my folders. I could not locate any settings for notifications on individual folders, but there are sync options for individual folders which is nice.

Is anyone aware of how to ask for an update for this or a work around besides starting up a new email address to forward to?
