Request for shake functionality

The things that sometimes a brute force shake would be most helpful for and that I would pay money to have my phone do:

1. Shake to full brightness. When it's too bright to see the screen, it's a PITA to try to get the brightness turned up.

2. Shake to current phone call. Occasionally, I exit the phone app and it's frustrating not to be able to hop back over there quickly.

3. Shake to unlock. It's annoying to always be swiping when I just want to quickly check something on my phone. A quick shake would be much easier as an option.

I second this. Especially #'s 2 and 3. I'd even pay for an app that does this...

Not if the threshold were set high enough. It would be highly unlikely.

what you are looking for, yet you might be able to configure the program to unlock when it is in a
certain direction. To me, this might be annoying, but the premise of this app is wild.

what you are looking for, yet you might be able to configure the program to unlock when it is in a
certain direction. To me, this might be annoying, but the premise of this app is wild.

screebl just keeps the screen on when the handset is within a specified orientation. it doesn't control the lock function. i tried this app because i wanted the screen to stay on during a call but it's not really practical. it's a nice idea but i think it just needs developing a bit.

Love the ideas. Not everyone has to worry about the phone getting unlocked while walking.

I tried the unlock plug-in for Locale, but Locale itself kept screwing up my phone, so I had to uninstall it. (Random reboots... really strange issues with Market.)

I only have the Motorola Droid so if some others have different devices some preliminary testers would be useful. Hopefully it will be ready in the next few days, depending on my paid work load.

with the 'shake to unlock' feature, would you press the end call key to turn the screen on and then shake to unlock? if so i'd be happy to give it a go.

i think there are quite a few apps on the market with shake functionality. there's one called shake awake which wakes the screen up after you've made a call. there are also alarm clocks with shake to snooze function. ive also got an app called Flickr droid with a 'tilt' function ie you shake the phone to go to the next image.

i could probably think of a few other occasions when shake control would be useful. can i have shake to bring up bookmarkmarks when im browsing? it's tiring going menu/bookmarks everytime.

I've added the beta to the Android Market, I figured it would be the easiest way to distribute the beta and of course releasing updates. I've got more functionality coming, like the ability during a phone call to either end the call or enable speakerphone on a shake and anything else that seems like a good idea.

Go onto the market and search for 'ShakeIt', publisher is androood.

Awesome. I'm just now seeing this.

Andrew, I DLed your beta app. I tested the shake to wake function.

One thing I noticed is that it was impossible to turn it off. I unchecked the box, but it kept shaking and waking.

I had to uninstall to get it to revert to normal behavior. Also, in the alphabetical list of apps, ShakeIt was showing up in the "c"s for some reason.

Great first step, though.

Two other quick thoughts: 1) An option for adjusting the sensitivity threshold is a must, it's a little too low right now for me which led to some in-pocket dialing. 2) Shaking would unlock the phone but not turn the screen back on, so I'd still have to hit the button on top of the phone.

I'll be supporting you 100% as you work on this. There's so much potential in the shake functionality and other accelerometer-based inputs.
