Help Motorola Milestone XT720 HDMI output not working..?

Hi I imported a Motorola Milestone XT720 to use on the 3 network in Australia and for the most part, am very happy with it.

My major disappointment however is that I can't seem to get the HDMI output to work. Clearly it should, as a cable specifically for that purpose was included in the box, with a diagram provided to show how it connects to a TV.

I'm running Android 2.1, as bundled with the phone.

I found in the Android Marketplace an application called Real HDMI whoch gives Droid X users more control over the hdmi output... but that doesn't help (i've downloaded and tried it, even though it says it only works on Droid X) and am now out of ideas. I looked on youtube, and couldn't find anyone demo'ing the feature, or writing about testing it in their reviews.

Has anyone else on here got their Motorola Milestone XT720 to output video via HDMI? If so, how, and with the help of what o/s or application?

Have you read the specifications and the use for the HDMI out in the phone?

I remember reading that the one on DX cannot be used to output video from any app apart from the Android Gallery.

Yes, I read that about the DX. HOwever, that appears to have been overcome by the application 'Real HDMI'... the live desktop can now be displayed. This is the result I would like to see on my Milestone XT720. I can't even get it working with the Android gallery app, so I'm stumped.
