Hi all, got a problem since 2.2 thats bugging me and draining battery life, in 2.1 I'd used Advanced Task Killer to kill all Apps I did'nt want which was fine, more often than not it was just Apps i'd manually started that popped up for killing.
Now I find in 2.2 that theres Apps that start running without me even opening them and sometimes its 7-8 Apps at once which cant be good for battery life (and I've noticed a drop in that).
Anyone else finding this?
Anyway to stop apps Automatically starting once I connect to the Internet for example? as alot of them pop up after I do that, but other times the phones on idle and I select ATK and theres some appeared on it, last thing I want to do is check ATK every 10mines just to save battery!
thanks

I'm not experiencing any battery issues - I typically get 2 days from a charge with light usage, but I don't have any rogue apps eating my battery. I'd suggest you get rid of ATK, it causes more problems than it fixes. Then start using the hidden menu by dialing *#*#4636#*#* to see what's using the battery during partial wake, and get rid of that app.

While you're at it, you should read up on memory management with Android and discover that it often has programs and services in memory, but they're not actively running or using any battery. Android does a very good job of handling resources and you simply don't need a task killer.

uumm well my phone was perfectly fine with 2.1 as I've noted, battery use was two days now its about 1 1/4...ok not all that bad but its the apps in the background that start running without me telling them too thats annoying. ATK has been a very good app and i've had zero problems with it.....but as I say, 2.2 is starting some up that should'nt be starting....I need a way of stopping them!

Have you done a factory reset after doing the update to Froyo? I did that about 10mins after doing the update to make sure it was wiped clean and reload factory defaults, and to ensure I could do it in the future if needed. I also start with the Clean Slate scene and setup the widgets and apps the way I want.

For usage, I make a few calls, texting, Maps, quick googling, Google Sky, and have 3G, sync, weather, stocks, news, always on data, all enabled. I don't use WiFi or bluetooth, yet I get 2 days out of it. Battery life is basically the same with Froyo compared to Eclair and I have it setup the same. I've noticed it's snappier thanks to Froyo's better compiled OS.

As for apps running, I don't worry about it. Android takes care of it all for me...and like I said, just because it's in memory, DOES NOT mean it's using battery or heavy CPU cycles. The best thing to do is let it get on with what it needs to do, and let it do it. If you're worried that something is eating battery, you can simply check what's using the battery by dialing *#*#4636#*#* and then select Battery History and check the various settings. Partial wake will show you what's using the battery when the screen is off.

If you have lowered battery life, it's probably because you're still "playing" with the phone too much, having fun, and eating battery.

For me, 2.1 handled apps just fine so I didn't need any task killers.. When I updated to 2.2, the phone started to lag.. Works fine now with a task killer in use :)
Lag with 2.2?
All reports I've read and my own personal experience shows that 2.2 is noticeably faster without any lag at all.

After you did the update, did you reset to factory defaults and then start installing apps and data, or just update and keep your old settings?

Didn't bother doing the factory reset.. that might be the problem?

Uninstall your task killer for a start. They are pretty much useless. Lekky has written about it.

Droid Den - Android Guide: Should I Use a Task Killer - Droid Den

Reading that made me uninstall my task killer.. Very convincing! :) Let's see how it goes :D
