Root major help PLZZ respond!!!!!

i am in the middle of rooting my girlfriends droid right now and i got as far as mounting it as a usb device and transfering the update.zip folder to the sd card... now when i try to install the update on the phone it gives me this message "E: no tar archives found" what do i do? i dont think i have bricked it at least not yet lol. and if so how do i just get it back to the regular froyo updates without rooting it?

I got the same error earlier . I had rooted my Droid few weeks ago and installed 2.2 on it. I saw the message for OTA update and it failed so I checked and saw the new 2.2 version. I've downloaded and renamed it to update.zip. Now when I try to install it, the msg that pops up is Can't open /sdcard/update.zip. I've tried multiple times. Not sure what is going on. Any clues?

I do have SPRecovery installed.

If you are trying to install the OTA update with SPrecovery to UNroot your phone it is possible that SPrecovery is your problem. I have heard that Clockwork recovery blocks it when trying to install.

Can you point me to the latest file that I can download and get most recent 2.2 version? I have FRF84B at this time. Thanks.

EDIT : I downloaded rom manager and going to stock 2.2 using that.

Yeah was going to tell you that. Can just go back to one of the stock versions to unroot your phone and then it will prompt you to upgrade to the current android version.
