[Games] GAMEVIL

This is old style zelda type graphics and gameplay..the graphics are done like this on purpose, I think the game is great. Can't wait for the Android market and these new phones to catch up with the Iphone and their game market. No reason why the Android phones with these new phones and updates can't be getting access to all the games that are also on apple based phones.

Well that's not entitlely true, the latest Android phones like Droid X and Galaxy S have no problem, snapdragon based phones are a little behind though.

This is why I never bought any HTC offerings, even compared to the first iphone they are pretty weak when it comes to graphics.

Utter rubbish. If the games are coded properly for the chipset rather than lazy developers simply porting their iOS stuff over without much thought then there's nothing wrong with games on snapdragon. Take NFS shift for example, now someone's modified the apk to be optimised for the snapdragon you can't see one difference between it and the version found on droidX and Galaxy S handsets.

Sorry but the graphics capability of snapdragon is a little behind the iPhone/Droid, doesnt mean you can't run the games, just means they have to reduce visual quality, or users have to put-up with poor framerates/lag.

You ever wondered why iPhones version oftern look better? ;)

So you seem to think there are different versions of games on the Market for snapdragon and droidX/GalaxyS devices? No, there isn't. The only exceptions to this are games like NFS shift and the sims 3, coded specifically to use the separate GPU the droidX and galaxyS, but people have since altered them to use the snapdragon properly and hey presto, they look identical with the same performance.

If iPhone games have simply been ported over to android with no real effort to optimise the game for the different handsets, then of course there can be graphical differences. It's a different story if the game has actually been coded properly, but a fair few developers, gameloft as an example, don't bother to spend time getting things right. Hardly rocket science mate.

oh well , this thread is too long to read .. so I'll just hope this haven't been answered before
I got a Galaxy S , and for some reason I noticed this game lags for me , at first it was working fine till I reached the first place with water in it
now I notice that almost every 5 seconds , specially when in battle (and when using skills , it pauses for about a second)
is this something that's only I face ? [cause I messed up alot with the rom and even changed the kernel and stuff] or is it a common thing ?

FFS, I'm not saying the GalaxyS hardware is no faster, I'm saying that current games play at the same speed and the same quality regardless, provided they're optimised properly, as pretty much all android games out at the moment don't require more than 1ghz or a separate GPU.

It's the same as comparing one PC to the other. One might have a 1ghz CPU with onboard graphics, and the other's CPU 500mhz faster with a dedicated graphics card. If all the game needs to run smoothly is an 800mhz CPU and hasn't been coded to specifically use the hardware acceleration the separate graphics card would provide, surprise surprise, the game will run the same on both since they both meet the requirements for the game to run properly. It's the same as playing a game on playstation, then playing it again on ps2 or ps3. Agreed, the hardware is faster, but if the game has only been programmed to need ps1 hardware at best, then it'll run at the same speed with the same graphics regardless. Hardly rocket science, moron. I'm not saying the Desire will be as capable as the GalaxyS with future games developed, as then the higher specs will matter, but at the moment they don't, as I keep trying to drum into your thick skull. Maybe I just need to use a bigger hammer.

By the way, the post above you is saying Zenonia runs poorly on their GalaxyS, though on my Desire it runs fine. ;)

You have said yourself some gameloft games are not performing well on your Desire, I know you blame this on coding but there you have example where having a Droid X or Galaxy S is helping in games available right now.

So your not getting the same performance, same visuals yes.

Shame we don't have a way to benchmark these games, Android needs better graphics benchmarks. :D

Not ALL gameloft games, just one is a bit poor performance wise, which is Asphalt5. Even then, it's not an FPS issue, it's random pauses for no reason as if it has to load the next bit of track (bad optimisation), and individual sound effects can stop for no reason, as if they've made an engine sound that doesn't loop well for example. In that recent NOVA thread I clearly said it was just a bad game with bad controls, NOT performance related issues.

And yes, there is no decent benchmarking software which is useful. It needs to be one where you can enable separate GPU or built-in depending on what handset you have, so then you can see how well the software will run for that particular hardware setup. A bit of software specifically programmed to use a separate GPU will obviously be piss poor on a handset that doesn't have one. Like I say, there are next to no games like this yet, except games like NFS shift and the sims 3, but both have since been hacked to run on snapdragon with no issues anyway. In time games will be aimed more at higher handsets with separate GPU's, but at the current moment in time that's not the case.

i hope so too as more people start using android os but i read piracy is much bigger concern for android so some developers aren't bothering. not sure how accurate that statement is.

yeah , the team behind the game "ninja kaka" said in their blog that 3000 player played the payed version of their game while they only sold 180.
this is actually pretty disturbing

and oh well , guess this thread is about how bad the ports are , and not about zenonia anymore >.<

anybody with any Galaxy S would tell me if the game runs fine on their devices ? so I'd know if it's a device issue or it's just my rom (or the lag fix thingie I did)
