Hello everyone!

I am new to Android (and smart phones for that matter), and will be getting my Epic later today (UPS), I cannot wait! :D

So I was wondering...

1) What were the first 10 apps you installed - a must have for you?

2) What immediate changes/and or settings did you make to your phone?

*By default the Epic comes with TouchWiz, however I've read you can change this to Vanilla within your settings/menu...

3) Which are you using (TouchWiz, Vanilla, Launcher Pro or ADW)? If changed from the default to Vanilla, LP or ADW - which is better and why?

Thx! :)

1) I think 10 is a lot to say but: Pandora, Google Voice, Task Killer, The Onion, Army Creeds, some games, Personal Assistant (a must have!!) Amazon, Ebay, Barcode Scanner.... enough lol

2) changes: I went for changing the looks of TWiz to ADW.

3) I love ADW because its fast, easy, well kept, good themes, light weight and free.

i am new to android as well and i have a few questions too.

1. how do you lock the screen? on my old winmo phone you just held down the physical hang up button. no physical buttons here so how do you lock it?

2. is there a setting to lock the screen during a call?

1. There is a lock/power button on every android device. On the Epic, it is on the right side of the phone.

2. There is a proximity sensor on the top of the Epic that locks your screen when you hold your phone to your face

1. astro file manager, pandora, launcherpro, skyfire browser, rockplayer, musicjunk, twicca, meebo IM

2. ROOT!!!!!!!!!

3. launcher pro. love the customizable icons and sliding shortcuts bar. allows you to keep the screen clean and just scroll through most used shortcuts instead of pages of apps

OK - I know that this isn't a LauncherPro fforum - but - since a lot of us noobs will probably check this thread - I downloaded LauncherPro (Plus). It looks to be set to 3 home screens - how do I get back to 7?

Nevermind - I kept going into Settings instead of Preferences.

TIA!

Here's a stupid new guy question: How do I put movies on my phone? I know that's probably a detailed answer, so let me say I'm sorry straight out of the gate for asking it.

I discovered yesterday, as I had expected, that digital copies of my DVDs downloaded into iTunes cannot be played on the Epic, because of DRM. that's really annoying to me, but I grudgingly understand why it was done. Sorry that doesn't really answer your question except for telling you how you can't do it :).

Is this Personal Assistant an app from the market??

Yes it is, and its the best Assistant software I've ever seen in my life:

you can tie up pretty much any utility, banks, even skymiles from airlines! you can view there balance, see statements and even receive alerts when special events happens to your account like a new statement or overdue bills.

I would recommend it for anyone who has a busy life and needs to keep track of there financial needs and more.

Free version lets you add only 3 accounts, paid version lets you add all you want.

I recommend it to anyone!

Well, I have a friend with an iPhone, and he brought up a few CDs that he's put formatted movies on for his phone, and I was wondering if I could use them on my Epic.

I believe it all depends on whether or not they have DRM (digital right management). If he bought them off iTunes, they almost certainly do. If he created them directly from DVDs, they probably do not. I am by no means an expert, but I'm pretty sure that at least is correct.

Hmm, a search for "personal assistant" did not turn up anything like this that I could find, not sure why. Sounds like a great app!

Can some give me guidance, new to android been a windows users for yrs, but how do you keep the backlight from turning off when using GPS example...googlemaps/sprint nav. On my TP2 anything using GPS would keep the backlight lit unless the user turned it off manual. As of now I just have the screen to 30min before timing out.
