Buyer beware... EPIC GPS DOESN'T work

I can confirm it doesn't work, if working is having you pass the street by 150 feet when its telling you to turn is working, then we have a different definition of working. it might work better than the vibrant or captivate, but its still crap. if I give this to my kid and install a locator app, should I go to a 300 foot radius and try to find them?

Have the EPIC 4G in Hawaii

Initially my GPS wasn't working with BOTH my Sprint Navigation or the google maps pre-installed. Kept getting the "your location can't be found". I went to market place and found there was an update to google maps and installed and it worked. I didnt do anything to settings other then verify GPS was enabled and NO I do not have WIFI enabled.

Dont know if it fixed the sprint app cause I never use theirs anyways but hopefully this helps someone else out

I didn't speak of it, the quoted comment did. I almost cut that from the quote to avoid sidtracking this thread. Some users report problems with the Back/ Home /Menu buttons across the bottom of the screen not being sensitive enough. If you want to discuss that issue, here is a thread for that.

no problem, just checking. I don't have any issues with my buttons.

Buyer beware, Epic working as intended, If you don't want a phone that seems to be free of any major bugs the Epic is not for you!

Got a chance to go out today and test the Epic's GPS 8/8 bird lock outside my house also got to go on a small trip in the car, GPS is accurate up to 55ft and had a lock time of 4min for the first lock and just a few seconds for a re-lock, I lost the lock when I went indoors and did some stuff for 5-10mins and came back out. Works just as well as any other CELLPHONE would, is it like the dedicated in-dash GPS in my car? Heck no, but it's not meant to be, it's a cellphone and works just fine, needs a-gps indoors but that's completely normal.

Bull. The performance you describe is not nearly as good as the GPS on my venerable G1, the very first Android ever sold to the public.

Keep your G1 then, it's a cellphone 55ft of accuracy is completely normal. A test of the EVO done a few weeks ago revealed it was accurate at around 40-50ft from the bullseye so I don't see a bug here. If you get better on your G1 good luck to you and it. Fact is the G1 would barely be able to do any decent Nav anyway as it lags like hell, either way I wish you luck with your 3 year old phone, hope that works out for you lol.

LOL obvious you don't know a thing about the IT world.... When you buy somthing it is suppose to work...

What part of "Sprint told me it is a known issue", don't you understand?

The problem with this post is that the OP stated that "EPIC GPS DOESN'T WORK" and the fact of the matter is that not ALL Epics are having this problem because I am not, and I am sure that there are a bunch of other people like me. He should of stated that HIS gps doesn't work. It could be his area/sprint service, or the unit itself.

The thread title is misleading, I can change this if the author would like me to.

On Topic- My GPS is working great, anywhere from 8-15 satellites in view/in use. Using My Tracks I find that this GPS is much much more accurate than the GPS on my old Moment. Useing Google Nav, I have yet to have the phone fail me (put me on a side road, telling me to turn before/after actual turn, displaying me off course).

I see majority of Epic owners are reporting back with similar results, this would point to the problem not affecting every unit, its possible that a batch of Epic got out of programming before the "fix" was implemented. Or that there are environmental factors, maybe even user error in a few cases. Bluntly stating that "EPIC GPS DOESN'T work" is misleading.

You are proof that denial is not just a river in Egypt. Your fanboy emotions won't let you accept the facts about what good smartphone GPS performance actually is.

Outside, I expect accuracy more like 15 ft from established old units like the G1. The Galaxy S actually has the latest and greatest GPS chip from Broadcom, and should be able to outperform that, under similar conditions, if implemented correctly.

Ok then if it's a problem why aren't you in the Evo forums saying the samething? Why aren't you in the MyTouch forums saying the samething, all these phones were tested and zero got 15ft of accuracy, I know you want the Epic to fail but the only thing that fails here is you and your negative comments.

I don't post in Evo forums because I don't own an Evo and have little interest in buying one. I am most interested in the Galaxy S family. I did just pay a lot of money for an Epic, and I am actually hoping it will work -- or at least that problems, once identified, can be fixed. But my judgment is governed by demonstrable facts, not fanboy loyalty.

Liking your phone isnt akin to bashing everyone that has an issue with their phone.. not the last time I checked anyways.

You bashed him because he said he likes his phone and has confidence if/when the issues are found they will be fixed. You then said he acted like he developed the phone...

Is there any other reason you're here or are you just trying to stir up arguments, since you have an Evo?

just curious, what is a phone guide, whats that green title you got? and how do you get it?

A Guide simply tends to the forum, attempting to keep things clean. Important posts get stickied in the "Phone Guide" post, and when multiple posts are over the same subject they get merged, threads more appropriate to another section get moved. Guides attempt to keep things calm, and report problem users when necessary. (by the way anyone can do so, use the "Tip This" for an individual post)

I guess you can say we are Hall Monitors? ;)
