Desire vs Galaxy S? Please help :D

Hi there, im new here and new into the android world. Im an ex-iphone user, which want to move to android world. But i have a doubt... i can get the HTC Desire and i can get the Samsung Galaxy S. What should i do?

I ask here because i want opinions from desire users, because galaxy users wouldnt help too much since im already on the galaxy side, but still undecide.

The pros for galaxy would be the hardware, its faster.
The cons for galaxy would be the community. I dont want a phone that freezes in android 2.2 and thats all. I've heard that desire have a great community of rom cookers and stuff. Other thing, i prefer Senses than Samsung's Touchwiz. Other ones.. i dont play mobile games, so i dont care too much about Samsung's GPU, and the plastic cover from galaxy is uglier than Desire cover.

What should i do? Please comment and help this new android user

I would agree with you on the points you made.

The touchwiz interface does my head in! Looks too childish for me, love sense! I imagine if you go down the galazy route you can change it to like launcher pro or something? (not sure)

I also think the look and feel of the desire is a lot better like you say. The galaxy for me is too plasitcky and too iphone-ey, again a no no.

Dont know much about the galaxy community, but I do know that the desire has a massive community behind it, so thats also a plus. Since you arent into your mobile gaming, then I would say in terms of hardware, the desire more than holds its own, heck even for mobile gaming its great.....I play NFS shift and it works like a charm!

All in all, you need to do your homework, and decide what your priority is in the phone, and then pick the one you feel is better for you

i've read those but you know, 1-2 months later the people could think different

maybe someone that said 2 months ago that galaxy S was better, bought one and feel now that he should have bought the desire :/

EDIT after reading eteyen1 reply: yes, im agree with you, and i've seen that launcherpro do the work, but, if you install and modify things to desirify (make a phone looks like desire) the galaxy, maybe the phone works slowly ? and after all, the hardware improvements could mean nothing if you put them at the same level. dont you think?

The galaxy has a superior screen but by all accounts can be laggy, the Desire isn't perfect either but all round comes together as a perfect package.
I read through loads of reviews when i made my choice on the Desire, but you could do the same & decide on the galaxy.

few weeks ago people said that desire > galaxy S, just because the galaxy doesnt have froyo, its laggy sometimes, gps signal is a bit buggy... but... those things seems to be solved in 2 weeks. the only thing that still no changes is that samsung has a crappy reputation.

but that matters for choosing a phone? :/

i would like to ask desire users, the screen is not multi-touch, how does it feel? my last phone was an iphone, so you know, i would like a screen that feels similar.

My best mate just bought the Galaxy S and as he's a tech newbie, he asked me to set it up.

Have to say, it's a good phone, as is to be expected. However, maybe it's down to me not finding them on the phone, but it's missing the HTC Sense-style widgets like Top Contacts, Bookmarks, Calendar, Email etc.

I couldn't deal with not having those.

yep very coold video and thanx for comparison, however, wanted to add that even though desire has switching coordinates problem i never actually experienced where i could possibly experience this bug apart from this application so its not a problem to me. but well done to samsung galaxy S as original samsung galaxy i7500 never had a multitouch (capable screen but no driver ever released )

Just wanted to say as an ex-Samsung user. I think you should just check out the Samsung i7500 section of the forum. You can see how Samsung really treat their customers. Its makes what people complaining about the froyo update for the desire look like nothing.

i dont understand this at all, but, what people ask samsung to fix, and what people ask samsung to include (froyo), samsung looks like its working on it and it will be deploy. so.. thats not +1 for samsung this time? :/

and yep no matter how nicely the coordinates work on the screen samsung will ditch samsung galaxy S users as soon as new phone will be released as they're too big to care about customers and releasing phones too fast to even remember how many they released in a month more so to remember which firmware on which phone had faults

That is exactly what I am trying to say. Samsung are big enough that they can release a phone and push one or two major updates and leave the phone where it is so they can go on to support the next one. They don't really care about the customer right now as their main aim is to expand their market share and profit margins. While HTC on the other hand has always cared about the customer and it was Google's launch partner and makes every developer phone. Therefore it is definitely the manufacturer to buy from!
