Just got the Epic for my wife, I have the Evo.
She wanted the keyboard. I havent done any battery tweaking, task killing and the battery seemed to be down from 100% to 75% with in 1.5 hours.

Now that can be from the "learning" phase of the phone like screens wall papers emails ect.

From the preliminary looks of this, it may have a similar battery life of the Evo.

Ill have to be bench marking this week.

Lets hear your experience with the Epic and Battery life.

i'm not even gonna go through that learning phase. the first day i have the phone, i'm gonna set up my email and contacts and put the necessary apps on the phone, then that night do a full charge and in the morning take it off just like i do my Evo and see what percentage i have left after i get home 11hrs later. typically i have 60% battery left on my Evo when i get home, which is excellent

As far as I am concerned, there is no comparison. The EPIC's battery life is FAR superior to the EVO. I had two EVOs, both with similar battery lives. After having the EPIC only one day, I can already tell it lasts much longer.

When I picked up the phone I had to go straight into work. I didn't have an opportunity to charge the phone until later in the day. The phone was still trucking along after 3 hours of being on without any charging! It lasted that long off the petty charge it comes pre-loaded with. I let the battery fully deplete and then charged it full, while turned off. Today the battery seems to be lasting great.

I like that the EPIC comes loaded with a pretty decent task killer. The "Power Control" widget is also very useful. You can quickly toggle wifi, bluetooth, gps, data background sync, and screen brightness! I think with any of the new large screen super phones, toggling things on/off is going to be a must for efficient battery life.

I too disabled most of the background data sync options within individual apps. Call me old fashioned, but when I want to check my facebook... I will go to facebook! I don't need to know everytime somebody posts something.

Overall - Great Battery Life so far

I get about 6 hours right now with it being used constantly. I don't worry about it though because I bought the extra battery and spare battery charger. It has been amazing to not ever have to worry about the battery. When it shows th battery low I just take it out and put the other one in. Then pop the dead battery in the spare battery charger. I won't be tied to the wall. Its great!

GUYS. Please post your screen on time when telling us how long it has lasted.

For example, here are my current battery stats:

Current battery life: 36%
Time off charger: 9 Hours 30 Mminutes

Display: 57% (screen has been on for 2 Hours 26 Minutes)
Cell Standby: 25%
Phone Idle: 6%
Dungeon Hunter: 4%
Android System: 3%
Media Server 3%

What in the balls is media server?

I consider this phenomenal battery life compared to my EVO when it launched. It will only get better from here :):):)

Lousy so far. First day in the field i was losing about 10% an hour. I wasnt even using it. I think i sent 2 or 3 texts and had a 3 minute call. No web browsing at all. I did play a tad bit of wordfeud tho. If u have it, lets play. Im koolhand on there

My Evo was much better, then again it was running a custom ROM. I expect it will stabilize and get better with time. I

My battery life is not great. I also lose about 10% per hour. The encouraging news is that I complained about my battery on my Captivate for the first several days and it got much better after that. Not sure why a battery can get better over time, but my Captivate did. I also heard from a friend that the battery really gets 100% charged if you power it off while charging. I did that with my Epic for the first night and will do that for the next several.

From experience with the Evo, your first reports on battery life may be subpar. Various reason for this.

- The battery is not yet fully conditioned and calibrated. A calibration procedure may surface.
- The software is not fully optimized. OTAs may help this.
- Your settings are not fully optimized. The power users will eventually find battery killers and post them up.
- You are playing with it too much. Your palms are getting hairy. Ooops, I mean ... yeah when you first get your new baby, you aren't gonna put the damn thing down. All these phones will destroy a battery if constantly being used.

Overall from initial to final story, my Evo went from 10-12 hours to 20+ hours. Your Epics should do the same.

Right now my fiancee's Epic massacres batteries at an alarming rate, but her awake time is still in the 60% range.

PLEASE NOTE:

The way SAMOLED works is that each pixels is individually lit. Because white consists of the most light, viewing anything with a lot of white will kill the battery faster. Black, obviously, uses the LEAST amount of battery life. You can gain a bit of battery life just by using a darker background for your home screens.

Because of this, web browsing is a huge battery killer.

26% remaining (fully charged about 6.5 hours ago).
i've been learning Android and customizing my EPIC bunches though.

i live in a 4G area so i have that on all the time along with Wifi. i'll probably get a workflow that only has the one i am using on at any given time.

i didn't get the EVO because of the battery so i am hoping the EVO is better. 30 days to try it out . . .

Well according to my phone, it told me it was off the charger 10 hrs b4 it finally beeped at me that I was getting low...idk what the threshold was but I do know that my battery bar wasn't red.

I surfed on the net, did about 100 texts, 2 email accts, 1 was gmail the other checked every 30 minutes...talking about 200-300 minutes, used some gps, yahoo messenger, played suduko, downloaded apps and things.

Today, my phone came off the charger at 7am when I woke up, it's now 8:33pm and I still have good battery left. I sent about another 100 texts, same emails, internet surfing, qik talking and probably some other small stuff I'm nothing about.

My battery life is better on this phone than with the Hero so I'm satisfied.

111 emails sent(25)/received(86)
55 text messages
74 minutes talk time
~48 minutes surfing the web (15 minutes via 4g)
60 pictures transferred to phone via bluetooth (from my Droid Gallery)
21 minutes of Google navigation
5 apps updated
6 apps added
~30 minutes changing settings

GPS always remains on
4g, bluetooth, WiFi are toggled on when necessary

Unplugged 8hours 30min 28sec

Not bad at all. At least equal to the battery life on my Droid.
