Help Email trouble on the Epic?

Well this is my first ever android device. I really like this phone so far. I've been loyal to Blackberry for years and when I saw the Epic had a keyboard I was all set. BTW, the keyboard is awesome IMO and I type just as fast or maybe even faster than on the BB.

One thing I've noticed though is that this thing just doesn't seem to be picking up my email very well at all...personal or work. Are any of you getting this issue? I'm used to the BB getting them almost instantly which is important to me because of my work.

I'm also getting this notification saying "Network Error" from time to time. What's up with that?

Overall I'm happy with this phone but I really hope that I can get my email situation solved.

Is wifi on? I am have been getting a lot of network errors with wifi on.

I was told that some accounts simply would not be able to check mail when wifi was on (like Yahoo, my main account). I enabled WiFi to download something large the first day I got the phone, and after that my mail stopped checking (even after wifi was disabled again) until I rebooted. So that could be your problem. Other than that, it's been pretty relaibale for Yahoo IMAP. I don't sync with my exchange account at work (they'll have to pay my service if they want me to get email on my personal phone :)

Ya...i'm am in the same boat. Went from a BB to this and was disappointed with the email not updated. There is a setting to change to how often you want it to check, but even after changing that it didn't update.

So now I am thinking the wifi has something to do with it...b/c after turning it on and off just figuring the phone out....that's when i realized the email wasn't updating either. Hmmm....how do you reboot...i took the battery off...will that do the same thing?

thanks

I just turned it off and back on again to reboot. So yeah, taking out the battery would definitely do it, but I don't think you need to go that far.

Is this your Gmail account or another account like Yahoo/Hotmail? If it's your Gmail account then something I would assume is not right because most of the time the emails on Gmail will come through on my phone before my accounts inbox on my PC. As for Yahoo/Hotmail/MSN, etc...those use the stock email client which pretty much sucks. I would suggest "Maildroid" as an alternative app. It is pretty quick for pushing the email through and you can set up multiple accounts up through it as well. I have seen emails come through on Maildroid in as quick as about 30 seconds to about 5 minutes for the longest from originally marked.

I don't know either, one minute i'll have the emails in my inbox and the next they are all gone. It's definitely not working properly, maybe the 2.2 update will fix this issue. I use Yahoo, Gmail, and must have my work email on my device. Please, if anyone knows what's going on here let us know.

Well I do know that once you download them to your desktop, ie. outlook or mozilla thunderbird....it will take them off of your phone, where as BB you could keep them on your phone even if they were downloaded....so not a fan of that.

I called again and sprint had me take my email off and then added it back and hmmm ya...still doesn't download every 10 minutes like i have it set. I may try one of programs below and see if that fixes it (my husband is laughing...b/c he said "you won't like it" and I thought he was just jealous, lol)

I forgot to add that the main difference between the mail droid and K9 is K9 is somewhat like the stock client and you can have it check every 1,2,5,10,30,60, etc etc minutes where as the maildroid is kinda like a push client and does not have to be set....I don't like the reviews that some idiots give the mail droid because each device is different...Some people complain it's slow but my Moment was fast and this Epic just fly's so it isn't slow at all.

Your husband is jealous! :) Honestly i love this phone and feel that the kinks will be worked out. I called Sprint and they did a hard reset and i was able to send email and i received a test email however I have not checked to see if i will receive email per the 5 minute mark... This has been my only issue with this phone, otherwise it slams the BB. IMO.

Thanks for the feedback and you are 100% correct in what you say. MailDroid supports devices that are 1.5 and 1.6 and some of those are very old devices. Anyway, be on the look out for a new version coming soon that has many new features.

Okay so I think mine is fixed now. Here is the bad news... I called Sprint and we had to do a hard reset. The good news was that my contacts came back within 2-5 minutes. The other good news is that the phone is so new that the hard reset didn't bother me too much. However, since I've done this I am now getting my emails... atleast I think so. :) I'd suggest contacting Sprint *2 because the more calls that they get with this issue then the sooner it will be patched.

I seem to be experiencing a similar issue. Just sent a test email and my phone is set to check every 5 minutes and it took 10 minutes for it to show up.

Question about the K9 and Maildroid apps - will it solve my problem of hating the way Gmail collapses all related emails? Can I add my gmail accounts and not have it do that in one of these apps?

Okay, I'm an extremely impatient person so went ahead and downloaded Maildroid and freaking LOVE IT so far. Email came through immediately. Yay! Plus i LOVE LOVE LOVE the way it sorts out my Inbox emails and that I can have all of my emails in one place and not separated (gmails in one place and yahoo in another).

Thank you!!

Ya well i did the same thing and huu thought it fixed .....so I set it back to 30 minutes and then bam....nothing for hours. So leave it alone for a few hours and see if it updates....I am going to try one of these downloads. Sprint kept telling me one of the downloads may have caused this...but after I had them reset everything and DID NOT download anything...still same thing. Love the phone...but REALLY ANNOYED with the email! ;)
