Alright guys, here it is.

I was able to access recovery mode on my bricked phone in a way that all of you may think is stupid.

I have a Bell Canada Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant. My phone somehow bricked it self a few days ago. I wasnt able to get into recovery mode at all, no matter what I tried, how many times, and I tried every single method with no success.

People on XDA Forums were mentioning about heat somehow allowing you to access the recovery mode. Some said putting it facedown in the sun for a few minutes, some said plugging it in for 15-20 min, some said playing games on the phone to heat it will would also allow them to access the un-accessible recovery mode on their phone.

I tried all of them.

I put my phone in the oven for 5 minutes, twice, last night, did not work.

Ok I thoght to myself. Maybe I need more heat. To get it hot to the touch.

So I tried once again today, and what a shock, I was able to get in recovery mode via the 3 button - WITH BATTERY OUT, HOLD VOL UP + HOME BUTTON + POWER BUTTON, then insert battery, and let go of the power button once your phone turns on.

Took 3 seconds to set everything to restore, in the recovery mode.

And done.

It worked for me.

If you are going to try this, maybe try with a hair blow dryer first.
I dont have one of those, so I couldnt, to be safer.

I will not be held accountable for any damage you do if you leave it in too long or damage your phone in any way.

This worked for me. Im happy I got it working.

The only thing which worries me now........

What if heat or cold can cause your phone to brick itself?

My phone bricked itself out of nowhere, no idea how. And what if it happens again.....

Samsung Kies now detects my phone after formatting the sd card.

Now my battery has to be a bit higher so I can do the firmware upgrade from samsung kies!

So awesome. Wouldnt get it to connect, ever, before, and now it works.

Can you please go into more details about this firmware upgrade on kies? links? clear explanation please, thank you!

Download Samsung Kies from: http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.com/downloadfile/ContentsFile.aspx?CDSite=AE&CttFileID=3032461&CDCttType=SW&ModelType=N&ModelName=GT-I9000&VPath=SW/201008/20100818144348234/Kies_1.5.1.10074_2_6.exe

Or 4.0 inch SUPER AMOLED Display, Layar Reality Browser, Android 2.1 OS, 1GHz CPU Speed, 5 Megapixel AF Camera, Music Player - Samsung I9000 - Infotainment - mobile phones | SAMSUNG

Beside MANUAL, click on SOFTWARE on above link.

If you cannot connect to kies, format the sd card in your phone via your phone and it should be able to connect after that. Something about file names 16 characters or larger on will bug out kies and wont let you connect. So I just formatted to be sure I can connect to kies no problem.

and then after you connect to kies, it says thats theres a firmware upgrade.

Your battery has to be pretty high to be able to pull off the upgrade. CLICK BUTTON ON SCREEN, YOU'LL FIND IT. BESIDE THE SETTINGS ICON, IN SAMSUNG KIES.

Not sure what this fixes, but its a big file of 141 MB upgrade.

Downloads to the computer while phone is connected, and installs while phone is connected through the USB.

Its all official firmware upgrades so you wont have to worry about bricking the phone.

Doing an update for my gf to her phone. As you can see here.

Does anyone know if there are any problems with upgrading the firmware on a rooted vibrant with the lag fix applied?

Don't wanna hurt my phone :(

My phone is rooted with the 1 click from Market.

I upgraded my phones firmware today with KIES.

Not just my phone, but my gf's phone too.

Its all good, no issues!

can't get it to work so far, seems to be a driver problem not sure though.

edit* Uhh, it has finally detected my phone but it says my phone does not support any of the features that Kies has. Which I find strange. This can't be right :O

You may have to format the SD card and try.

Theres a bug in KIES currently, if you have files with 16 characters or over in the SD card, it will bug out KIES.

I just did a format to my sd card to make sure. And then i did a restore.

You may wanna format the sd to get it working.

You did a restore? hm? Maybe I missed something. I formatted my sdcard to begin with, no luck. Thanks for trying to help haha.

EDIT* bleh I'm reading that people are doing factory resets to get it working. Really don't want to do that. Did you do that Mell?

I did a factory restore after I formatted the hard drive, and it works perfectly now for me. I did the same for my gf's phone.

Okay, I will have to think long and hard about this haha. Through Kies is this the way they will be delivering the future GPS fix and android 2.2? I've already put so much love into my phone the thought of getting rid of all my data is scary. Also let me confirm. You did a factory reset while rooted/lag fixed and the root and lag fix was still intact after the reset?

thanks again, hope I'm not becoming a pest :D

You will be getting 2.2 Froyo Over The Air, once its released for your carrier later this month, end of the month is whats most likely. (You'll get a notification on your phone, when its time for OTA)

After you install 2.2, your root will be gone, and you will have to re-root, if you want a rooted phone then after.

Just back up all your pictures, videos and music, and whatever else is important. Plug in and drag!

My lag fix and root is still intact after applying the Samsung Firmware update through KIES. So is my gf's Samsung Vibrant, both rooted etc.

I am learning tons right now, and It doesnt bother me to help anyone.

Thats why I started this whole thing, no worries man, Im very glad to help anyone.
