Has anyone tried using velcro to mount your...

If you're going to use velcro, use the better quality velcro. The cheap stuff doesn't hold all that well and likely won't take the bumps and vibration of a moving car all that well.

And consider your environment... here in the painfully hot Arid-zona desert the adhesive on the back of most velcro will likely last about 5 minutes..

Well worth the money for the car mount IMHO. Doesn't add anything to the phone and it is secure and charges while mounted.

The problem that I always have with the car mounts are that I use the adhesive part they give you so I can mount the dock on the front part of my dash instead of the windshield. Well every one i have done this with the piece of plastic that the adhesive part is on comes off...the piece of sticky foam adhesive stays on the dash put the plastic comes off the adhesive. I don't like to mount the dock on the windshield because of heat and its harder to reach. I might buy a hard shell case for my X and try this velcro approach.

from experience: when it gets 100 degrees plus, the glue melts and your dash looks like crap. you can get adhesive remover, but i've been too lazy and have been looking at glue on my dash for a few months now. <still on my list of todo's> when it worked though, I had a great looking 'cockpit', had my tp2, my dedicated mp3 player, and my gps all next to each other in my F-250.

Fair enough. My windshield has a steep enough slope that I can mount it on the windshield, yet have the dock basically sitting on the dash and it is still in easy each. But not every windshield has the same shape/slope.
