After decades of reading about these things, learned scientists expressing opposing views on that subject still do not fail to intrigue me.

It certainly is a intriguing read nevertheless, all those theories and debates it creates.

For me the interest in it goes not much beyond fictional literature like the likes of Dan Brown books and such, though I must say he does some great things. He do make me read more on the subjects, not exactly what he writes about - but it certainly make me enjoy reading theories and science in a new light.

Stephen Hawking is truly one of the greatest minds of the world today in science. He is a wonderful theoretical physicist.

It really just boils down to whether you value evidence or wishful thinking. I, for one, wouldn't mind a little evidence. "Faith" is just a fancier term for hoping.

Which is quite essential to most humans in their set of belief.

I have my opinion which is more science based, but I also believe there is something more going on beyond this matter. I just don't think it's a good, but something else rather.

Agreed.
The most minuscule amount of proof would almost instantly convince multitudes of the presence of a higher being, myself included.
Which baffles me even more when bombarded with the ample concrete evidence for the other side, yet there are those that won't even entertain the notion.

Blind faith in ANYTHING is a dangerous course, yet there are many that devote their entire lives to this ? Wars are waged ? Lives taken ?
For what ???

very interesting article, but doesn't gravity in it self only exist through the presence of a larger mass? sure as he was mentioning gravity is essentially a force with no mass or molecular structure but it seems more to be a result of something molceular, which still sparks the whole something from nothing. Unless of course you still have gravity in a 100% matter free vacuum.

Not necessarily.
You have to take into account recent findings in molecular physics.
If you begin "gravity" at a molecular level, overtime you will have your "mass".

Research the reverse mathematical equation of a black hole.
Also a study by Hawking.
It will show you something from nothing... amazing.

And yes, I agree completely.
If we keep this up, I absolutely won't get any work done today

definately gonna take a look into that then, reading about the creation of the universe and where everything started is, and always has been, one of my favorite reads, on both a scientific level and religious (personally prefer scientific since I need actual proof and evidence)

You practically took the words right out of my mouth. Since his book is not published yet, I can only speculate on whether or not what is included in the article is Hawking

Prof. Steven Hawking went out on a blind date @ about 7pm.

I did a little bit of research and I have got to say...this shit is beyond me. I'm better with logic, and have discovered physics is not my strong point.

I did read this thread here which talks about the Hartle-Hawking Model, which may give more insight into what is in his book, but keep in mind its a forum...so take it with a grain of salt.

I hope you all can understand it better than I did.

I'm sorry, this seems like scientific wishful thinking to me. If they can reproduce it, on any scale, then I will believe this.

This seems more like the "reverse gravity particles" that are now believe to make up the space between galaxies to explain why the universal expansion is increasing instead of slowing down as gravity effects the universe.

It's an explanation that would explain the Big Bang, IF it can be proven.


And honestly, can we really expect Stephen Hawkings to say anything other than there is no God?

Yes and no. not all forms of matter will form in the vacuum of space. some compounds will only form within other environments. Also, most but no all forms of energy can move through a vacuum. for example, sound waves, which are a form of energy, require matter to travel.

As for the second part of the question, I'm no physicist, but I was under the impression that all three are nothing more than energy in different forms, with matter being contingent upon energy and gravitation (and gravity) being contingent upon mass. At least that has been the general teachings haven't they? I suppose something has changed? Are those darn quantum physicists at it again?

Want to point us to a link on the matter... I would like to read up on that. If gravity is the attraction between masses, then it would seem (logically) that gravity could not exist without mass.

It is the nature of "masses" that (partially) wrecks that notion.

Not to mention that "attraction between 'masses'" is not a very good description of gravity.
