I think it's horrible that Verizon would push out an update that effed up my (and so many other phones).

Customers should not be forced to due a factory reset to get things working right. And, after doing a factory reset, my phone still isn't working right!

I shouldn't have to spend hours on forums figuring out whats wrong, why, and how to fix it. this stuff should just work, and why in the world Verizon would push out an update that caused so many problems is incomprehensible

anyways, I think Im going to the store this afternoon to at least try getting a replacement, and if not a different phone

What's wrong with your phone yo?

CPU running full scream ahead, I did a factory reset, didnt install a thing besides a battery meter and systempanel lite, and my CPU is running between 500 and 850, mostly in the 700's

causing slow charging and battery drain

the point really is, I shouldn't be here at all figuring out what's wrong, an update should make things better, not cause problems.

clearly lots of people have had OTA problems, I'm not alone, the sloppiness with which this whole thing was handles really pisses me off

clearly its past the 30 day return policy, but it was working fine until Verizon/HTC effed it up. their QA is pretty clearly horrible

You know what's great? People screamed and cried and moaned for months "I want 2.2!! I want 2.2!! Where the hell is my 2.2!?!?"

Now we have it and people are still bitching.

I am seriously about to just give up on andoid forums. Not because of anything on this specific forum, just people on forums in general. Never happy, always whinning.

Totally agree but I still won't be leaving. Hope you stick around. :)

Did you back anything up before upgrading to 2.2?

A factory reset isn't a big deal, and it should solve your problem. Also, if you knew rooting was easy before 2.2 and knew that it would only get more complicated after 2.2, then why didn't you root instead of accepting the OTA?

BUT

You could get a replacement with 2.1 and then root and flash a 2.2-based ROM. I think that's the best option, really.

I backed up everything and have already done a factory reset.

I didn't root before b/c I figured Veerizon/HTC wouldn't send out an upgrade that effed my phone up. my bad I guess.

I will try to get a replacement with 2.1, or one with 2.2 that works

people would be happy if:

1) Verizon/HTC communicated better re: the timing of the update
and
2) the update worked.

I don't think that is a lot to ask.

I hate to use the A word, but Apple/iPhone handle both of these things far, far better than. You know when you get an update, and when you get it, the software has been QA'd.

I don't see how any rationale person can not view the entire Froyo/DINC experience as a giant ***********. no one knew when it was coming and now 75% of the traffic on this board is figuring out whats wrong with it and how to correct it

My phone works great! So, why doesn't yours? Could it be you have loaded something on there that effed up the update or doesn't work correctly under 2.2?

I think Apple people have problems too, BTW. What about the Antennagate clusterlove?

As much as I hate to say it, you are right on the money.

I have no idea. But I'm far from alone, many people are reporting problems.

yes, Apple effed up the antenna. but it was a rare mistep from them, I have never seen them put out a software update that effed up so many people. their stuff just works.

Many are reporting problems, but a lot of what gets reported here is due to lack of understanding, frankly.

I disagree about their stuff just working. What about their bars being higher than what they really were? That was a software screw up that lived through several updates.

The fact of the matter if that software (OS and apps) is not an easy thing to get right. Hardware is actually easier.

the people who bother to come here and post about Android are far savvier than the general population. if even this group of people has a lack of understanding, well, that's a serious problem. android is never going to become dominant if only the geekiest of geeks know what is doing on.

Joe 6 Pack shouldnt have to figure what is wrong and troubleshoot a brand new update. it should just work.

who cares? the phone worked the same way either way, it was just a display issue. the user experience was not effected by this

ok, but the 3 party dance of Android/Hardware Makers with custom builds/Operators is leaving a lot to desire. the whole thing makes the Apple model look a whole lot better

I don't think anyone here is to blame. I had battery issues prior. Didn't bitch but saw people had the same responses. "Its an operator error". Well, as stated many times, many inc owners don't visit the forums. They shouldn't have to to have a fully functional phone that they paid good money for. Ive thought of leaving these forums as well but for a completely different reason. People here are quick to point fingers and frankly, act like theyre better and more knowledgeable than anyone else with internet access. Judge away.

The update works for thousands of people. And Verizon doesn't owe you a 2-week notice on updates. Read tech blogs, and you get an idea of when updates are coming. It's not that time-consuming to scan headlines for 20 minutes a day.

I don't think it was a ***********. Coming from blackberry and installing a new leaked hybrid OS every week, this whole scene of Android people freaking out about their updates is silly. Just root and install a new ROM.

Android is about choice and control. So take control and make some choices.

How about how os4 slowed down iPhone 3g and 3gs' down to a crawl? Apple messes up updates too. Maybe you should just get an iPhone and complain about it on macrumors. Verizon will fix their mistakes in due time just like apple.

yeah god forbid a company I hand $100 every month actually communicates with me.

you know what, "being about choice and control" is fine as an option. but at a very basic level an update shouldn't break my phone. you can't just handwave that away and say "well android is great b/c you can spend a couple hours figuring out how to fix it". that's not a feature!! that's putting out a shitty product under the guise of openness.
